Injector removal?

Ok, I searched for this but did not find what I thought to be sufficent data. What I want is a step by step on how to remove the secondary injectors. I am upgrading to 1300cc so I need to remove the old and plug in the new. My problem came up after I removed the UIM and saw the "rat's nest" Now that's a lot of hoses!! I don't think I can do it without some guidance so please offer as much info as you can.

THanks

actually what im gonna do is this, there is like lets say 16 hoses under there, they all have one location that they go x2, meaning one in and one out, so that only makes 8 locations to remember and mark the hoses in or out regardless if you know which is really which, white out or sumthin

Damn it, I just put my UIM back on too. I could have had a bunch of pics and everything.

It's not EASY with the rats nets there, that's why I'm a big fan of going non-sequential, especially if you want/need to work on your own car. If you want to remove the whole 2ndary injector rail, there will be two bolts(12mm) that bolt it down and two hoses(1 in and 1 out of course) that will need to be removed.

To take the injectors out, you will take off the caps of the secondary injectors. These are held in place by a total of 4 cross tip screws(2 per injector cap). Pull the injector from the top and drop in your 1300's. Installation is of course the reverse.

How about tomorrow morning Bryan...it's 3:14 a.m. here on the rock...

Besides...mine will look TOTALLY different than yours...I am non-sequential right now so I don't have ANY vacuum hoses except for the ones I absolutely need...

I went through all of this while I was replacing my Fuel Pulsation Damper. Make sure you're labelling all of the plugs and hoses, and where they connect. Taking pictures like your's above was also a life saver. From the picture you posted, it looks like you need to remove the oil filler neck, then the coils. After that, there are three bolts that hold on the rat's nest. While you're in there, it would be an ideal time to replace all of the vacuum lines with silicone hoses. It's time consuming, but not difficult. It also gives you an excuse to take the entire rat's nest out of the car so that getting to the injectors is easier. Once the rat's nest is out, the injectors are sitting right there. There are some bolts that hold on the injector caps. Once you take them off, you can pull the injectors out. They're sometimes difficult to get out, some WD-40 will help. It might not be a bad idea to replace your Fuel Pulsation Damper while you're in there. Also, check the lines going to the injectors from the Oil Metering Pump. They can get brittle and break. They're located close to the primary injector rail. Both of them go directly into the rotor chambers. I have pictures from when I did this work, and plan to do a write up on it soon. If you need pictures of anything in particular, let me know.

I guess a good question to ask is, where are the injectors located? Are they under the "rats nest" of vacumm hoses or are they located more towards the lower intake manifold? Thanks for the help

Here's a pic of the non-sequential setup with NO rats nest:

Do I need to take that thing off that you took off or is that just for the non-seq mod? The thing I am talking about (becuase I don't know what it is) is the one that connects to the LIM under the UIM. I see mine is still on there and you have a BOP on yours. What is that, what does it do, can I remove it?
Van, you da man!!

This is a picture of the Fuel line IN. I also labeled the injector "HAT".

Here's a detailed picture of what you'll be interested in...

The block off plate is to block off the EGR valve. I blocked it off because I will be running 1600cc injectors, and the new fuel rail will hit the EGR if not blocked off. That, and it makes it easier to see everything

What all do I need to do to block off the EGR valve? I read what it does...is it really that important? Benefits/consequences???

I always have more questions and thanks for your help!

Benefits...makes it easy to get to the secondary injectors.

Consequences...you're not going to pass emissions.

I made my own BOP for the EGR. You can buy one from K2RD for $10 and they include 10mm allen bolts.

You don't really need it...blocking it off just made it easy for me...

ok, I removed the EGR (I read rob's site and it looks as if I should just keep it) and moved it to the side so I could get a good look at the first secondary injector. I removed the "hat" and took out the electrical connection. What now? How do I remove this sucker?!?! I see the other one (under a massive ton of hoses) so I just want to figure out how to get them out before attempting to kill myself in a wad of hoses.

Here's a good thread on getting the injectors out:

https://www.rx7club.com/forum/showth...threadid=45449

Make sure to replace the O-Rings and grommets when putting the new injectors in....

I believe this "EGR" (Exhaust Gas Recycler) you speak of is the actually the "ACV" (Air Control Valve). The EGR is on the other side of the LIM.
