Injector O-rings?

In the neverending saga of failed pulsation dampers and viscious rat's nests, I've been confronted by a new battle. I'd like to change the o-rings on my primary injectors while I have everything out. The dealer sells these for a pretty penny -- like $15 a piece for one of the top o-rings, $7 for another and $8 for the bottom o-ring. Do I need to replace all of them? Is there a cheaper source? Thanks for any help.

yes, you need to replace both the top and bottom if you pull the injectors. i paid around $80 for all 8 at the dealer.

You might as well dip 'em in some cleaner while you've got them out, too.

You can get them pretty cheap from www.mazdaformance.com

I can't remember what I paid, but I think it was like $8 for the expensive ones and $5 for the cheap ones.

Don't waste your $$. Send your injectors to RC Engineering or Marren Motorsports to get cleaned and flow tested for $25 each. They put new o-rings on while there at it.

OR go to your local diesel injection shop, they'll probably be able to clean the injectors too and provide new o-rings.

Mazdacomp sells the o-rings for about 1/2 price, auto-x your car and sign up with them, you can also sign up with a "car in progress" without competition results.

Jeff is right on. I did this job in February and had my injectors cleaned and balanced at RC. I also changed my Fuel Pulsation Dampner and the isolators under the injectors. Mine were falling apart and I didn't want to have to take everything back apart later. They are the small rubber isolators that sit around the fuel diffusers, below the primary injector rack. They were around $5 or so.

good luck,
eric

RC is pretty good at their flow test and cleaning prices. RC also has good turnaround time (about three days).
I used them when I had my FC (1600cc).

My buddy used Marren to flow test and clean his injectors. Good turn around time (about three days total time) and prices.

Cruzin Performance is who I used recently for FD injectors (820cc). The guy is real cool, but he hasn't encountered injectors like the stock FD. It took him some time to get the o-rings. He'll be ready next time around. For the delay (about 3 weeks -- no hurry since these are extra injectors), I only paid shipping.

The retailers are charging for the knowledge in "expert selection" .

When we don't know, we pay another that does, and sometimes suffer. If we know the ring we need, but want a wholesale price, we might choose from the o-ring destributors or cross-markets:

RC gave me new o-rings when I had my injectors cleaned. I had already paid $60 for a replacement set of stock ones from Malloy Mazda.

You can have my RC ones for $20 shipped. Drop me a PM.

I had my injectors cleaned by RC Engineering but they told me they did not have any o-rings and I would have to buy them myself at my own expense. I would ask them beforehand if you or counting on it. Luckily my Mazdatrix kit has every o-ring and gasket in the entire engine bay and I didn't have to buy another set.

I allready installed mine but maybe Sonny can measure his set and post it for future reference and searches. The list jhillyer is excellent and the reason why this forum is an excellent resource to keep our overpriced costs to a minimum.

I got my injectors back from RC last week with new O-rings on them. I measured width, outer diameter, and inner diameter. The OEM rings were identical as far as my caliper could tell.

Of course, I kicked myself for spending the $60 for the OEM rings, but since I had spent the money, I decided to use them. So, my RC's are now spares.

^ If the o-rings are $80/set and RC-Eng' charges $114/set for cleaning then I would think they don't pay more then $24/set. If you can post the inner and outer diameters, thickness and whatever other info we would need to purchase from Mcamaster or one of the other venders and we can use this as a future reference.

Becareful, Mazda changed the spec on the Primary injector top o-ring. They may not fit right.

I used the part numbers found in this post:

https://www.rx7club.com//showthread....hreadid=232603

Ray @ Malloy verified them to be correct. He did not say anything about the primary and secondary injectors having different top O-rings?

I coated all of the O-rings in oil and everything slid in nicely. I pressure tested the system and found no leaks.
