Unhappy importation of my fd

alright here is the deal i have been looking all around for the answers to this question but all i could seem to find was how to ship a car from japan to guam and how to ship to canada and that doesnt help me at all. i am currently in the us army and im stationed in germany. while i was out there i bought a 1994 fd from japan and it is rhd with slight modifications. i need to know if there is a way to get it back to california and what i need to do. will it be able to pass inspections to get it into california or am i gonna hav to change a lot bout the car?

I don't know if they make special provisions for troops.

Unfortunately, if they don't, you're going to have to sell your FD in Germany and use the money to buy one here.

Also, from what I've heard, CHP doesn't play games with RHD cars.

It's not going to be possible unless you do it through "less than legal" means. I would suggest selling it there, unfortunately.

I just don't understand why anyone would want to tackle something like this head-on knowing that "less than legal" avenues will have to be taken to register it in the states, and the fact that thousands of 7's are already here ready to be purchased and can be registered that same day without a single problem.

Is it just that you wanted a RHD 7?

Why the PM? If it's straight forward and legal, at least for those in the military, just post up how to do it for everyone else who might be interested.

He said it can be done, but he never said if it was legal or not.

If you can't take it to USA , you can sell it on England , cause they drive at the same side that the Japanese people , and it is legal to send used cars from Japan to England, it shold be not far from germany, i was there 3 months ago , and I can tell you that there are a lot of Japanese tuned cars in London.

Without all your many ducks in a row that car ain't even leaving long beach. It is a government conspiracy to get you to buy Ford and GM. No jk. I was going to become a registered importer but the liabilities and political bs were just too much.

Good luck with your car man.
