Talking I'm going Mobil 1 tomorrow!!!

After going through the long drawn out debates, I've decided to give Mobil 1 15-50 a try. Since I'm going to be going back to the dyno on Wed. and turning up the boost, I wanted to give the extra protection to my engine and turbos.
Hearing things from Gordo, Rich, Max and others has given me the nutz to try it. I'll report temp differnces, etc...
I want to try some Royal Purple, but I'm not sure which one of their racing oils to use, and where to get them???
Why the hell is it soo hard to have them in a store someplace?
I really don't want to be buying oil online every 2 months.

Dave, former Castrol GTX user.

Thanks, I'll keep you updated. I figure anything that protects better and makes these cars run cooler can't be all that bad, right???

Actually, I don''t think going online for Royal Purple is that bad an idea. Any place you can get it probably won't give you squat for a case discount, so just get a couple cases whenever you need to, and you will get a good discount.

I will go full synthetic pretty soon. I have a case of Red Line, and a case of Castrol GTX. I figure I will use up the Castrol, going 50-50 with the Redline. Once they are all gone I am going to go with Amsoil. That ash percent listed on that link comparing they is untouchable, and they don't look to be that much more than the others in case lots.

I still need to get off my *** and change the differential to synthetic. I already did the tranny.

The other thing that will help a lot is improved oil coolers. I sent a deposit to Duane at CWR.

Easy as long as you buy one of those fluid pumps for like $2 at checker, otherwise it would be a real nightmare to get the fluid in the diff.

I'll be going mobil 1 15w-50 on sunday(I got aprox. 2k miles to go but I can't wait). I'm also going boost gauge and apex t-timer on sunday as well. And I'll be getting a shipment for Protek-R next week.

Its an average oil change, but it feels like I'm giving my gal a blood transfusion.

You should really use fossil oil until your engine is broken in.

Anyways, I just switched to Mobil1 15w-50 full-synth. Mind you that my engine has fossil oils since its humble beginning 102,000 miles ago. After getting the oil changed I just drove the car home. I'll let you all know how things go after I do some WOT.

Can you post that site for me comparing ash percentage.

Well, I did some WOT today. Nothing really has changed. I'd like to say my temps were lower and my turbos were more responsive, but I can't prove that seeing as how I still have my 8-4-9 boost pattern and I don't have an aftermarket temp sensor. What's important is that the car runs just fine even after 102kmi of dino juice.

I went to Mobil 1 as well. Why 15-50 ? what should you use. I just used 10w 30 not that I'm a n expert at oils. If i should drain it and change the oil let me know please. I've had it in for 1 day so far.

fd3BOOST - In cooler weather I run 10-30, during the warmer months I use 15-50. 10-30 shouldn't hurt you at all, still penty of protection, I'd just use 15-50 next change if you like the syn feel...

When I went from non-syn to syn oil the car felt sooo much smoother!

I would like to switch to synthetic, but right now I flush my oil before I do an oil change, a seen in this thread https://www.rx7club.com/forum/showth...threadid=96123
And I would feel better, right now, with very clean, "free" mineral oil, than with not so clean(due to not being able to afford enough synthetic to flush) synthetic oil. The oil with which I am flushing is Havoline 10w30 (the bulk oil at my dealership), and once done flushing I use Havoline 20w50. Could I flush with Havoline and fill up with Mobil 1? That seems kind of "iffy." Or is slightly dirty synthetic oil better than very fresh mineral oil? Thanks.

I just changed to Mobil 1 15w-50, just finished about 2 hours ago. That oil filter was a pain, but got out with a few cuss words here n' there. I haven't driven it yet, I put like 50 miles on her yesterday, criusing. So she gets to rest today.

As, since I havent driven it, the only thing I noticed, was that its even more quiet. She seems happy.

Next, week I'm gunna try and tackle a coolent change.

SoCalLove - for about 3 bucks @ any auto parts store(got mine @ autozone) you can get an oil filter cap that has a socket hole in it for removing the oil filter

Once you jam your hand down the space between the elbow and other garbage in the way there is no way to get any leverage on the oil filter, but with this cap thingy you just stick it on top of the filter, then shove your ratchet extension down there and crank it off...piece of cake!!!

Since there is about 0 room now with the greddy elbow and Greddy Type S BOV, that thing is awesome for me!

SoCal Love- did you do any flushing of your oil before putting the synthetic in?

I'm wondering because I'm also thinking about switching to synthetic mobil 1. To all that have done this before, should I have any problems mixing the dino oil that is left in my car after I drain all the oil out with the synthetic?

Also now with the synthetic how often do you do oil changes?
