Ignitor grounds?

Ok, So Ive been working on my car the last few days, and have a few questions.

I checked my Crank angle sensors, Ohmed out fine, and checked the waveforms, and they were fine. I ohmed the wires from the sensors to the PCM and they ohmed out fine.

I now jumped to the ignitor. Like I said I checked all wires and ohmed the signal wires from the PCM to Ignitor. Ohmed out fine. Problem I noticed is when I pulled the connector from the coil and checked for a ground going to ignitor I got like 1 volt. Now I was pretty sure it is either 12 volts or 0. But thats not the case.

Im looking at the diagram right now. 8 wires are going in, but in the car there are only 7, the ground isnt on there. And the ignitor has 8 pins. But I know that there was only 7 in the first place. So I cant seem to figure out how the ignitor grounds.

Any one know how the ignitor grounds the coils? Because I cant seem to find that wire. Does it ground though the ignitor case maybe?

Hope someone can chime in. Thanks

I know that there is a ground wire that is bolted to one of the studs for the coil. If you don't see this wire, you should try to trace back through the harness. I'm not sure of the pin count on the connector.

I just pulled that harness from the car. The one that connects to the coils and goes into that four pin connect.

The ground was good, but I noticed the ground doesnt have any continuity with negtive side connector that connect to the coil.

I was looking at the diagram and it shows them being connected. So I would think there would be continuity.

I also pulled the harness apart, and looked for any melted or burnt wires, but everything looked good. Cept for the wires being grounded to the stud near the coil. See these wires seem to be connected to the negtive side connectors on the coils going to the ignitor. I wish I could put pics on, it would help alot. But the best way I can tell you is...

The wires that ground near the coil by the stud goes from the stud into the harness into a shielded wire. Continuity is there up till they go inside the shielded wire but when I go check at the connectors I get nothing. Is that normal? I wouldnt think it is, but I dont just want to go splicing and start causing anymore problems.

I hope that made sense, ill try to see if I can get a pic of the harness up, so you can see the wires and where they splice into each other.

I sure hope someone could give me some advice on this. Thanks

Was it not running correctly? Missing? I have an intermittent miss I've been tracing for weeks and am thinking it is something with the harness.
If you describe the problem it would be easier to help.

there is a small condensor with a black wire on it if that is disconnected it will not start. it is toward the front of the car next to the ignitor? are you getting 12v to the coils? get a good high impedence test light and check for the pulsed ground at the coils also

Sorry, its a no spark problem. I get 12 volts to the coils but no ground pulses.

When I checked with a DVOM to see if the ignitor was switching, I was only getting 1 volt. I was pretty sure it should be 12 or 0.

All wires to ignitor are good, Crank and Cam sensors are also good. I checked there waveforms and ohmed them. Also checked the wires from the sensors to the PCM.

Been pretty much been up and down the damn thing. Only thing I could think of is a bad ignitor. But im pretty sure that isnt the case.

I think I figured out the coil harness with the ground near the stud of the coil.

That is just for grounding any induced voltage. Meaning its really not even part of the ciruit.

Now back to the drawing board. Im still thinking something to do with the ignitor. Im only gettting 1 volt on the switching side of the coil. And the wires are good.

It should be 12V on, Or 0 meaning its sparking the plugs right?

Hope it isnt the ignitor.

It should be fairly cheap to borrow/buy an ignitor for testing sake.

I dont know anyone around my area that owns a 3rd gen. Autozone has the ingitor listed at like 480.

If anyone has links for a cheaper ignitor pls post.

Thanks

A used one in the for sale section. I've seen them for $20.

If you're good with electronics, it might be interesting to try this:
