Ignition
Hi everybody, I have a 93 R1 that I'm building for World Racing League endurance racing. Just acquired the car a month or so ago and have been building Cage, fire system, seats and belts and all the usual interior stuff. I've gotten to the engine now and it is a single turbo T35 conversion with a power FC ECU. It does have the HKS Twin power ignition add-on with stock coils. I'm getting the above 5000 RPM severe Miss problem. I'm suspecting a bad leading coil pack. I have raced and still race a FC normally aspirated. In trying to research this on the forum I came across someone that said the FC coils are an upgrade to the FD coils. Since I have lots of these laying around I was going to hook up one of the FC leading coils to test my suspicious. The FC coils are mounted to their own igniter and it appears that the FD has one igniter that it serves all three coils. So it seems that I need to remove the coil from the igniter of the FC coil and wire it direct to the input wires of the FD coil. Am I making the correct assumptions. Also if the problem still persist how do I test the HKS Twin power to see if it's actually working. And are the FC coils an actual upgrade to the FD coils. Thanks

I guess it's possible, I'll look into that if the ignition is OK. Side note, another problem that may or may not be related is that when the engine gets up to operating temp and I turn the car off, it won't crank back up till it sits for 15- 20 min( cool down??). It is getting spark and fuel pressure during this time when it won't crank.

Turns out there were several problems. The main issue was a bad connection at the HKS Twin power connector. I had unplugged it too see it that was the problem but it had the same horrible Miss over 5000 RPM. I plugged it back in and was contemplating what to do next and decided to drive it around the block again. Lo and behold Miss was almost completely gone. Brought it back left it running popped the hood and noticed 2 spark plug wires arking to ground. Checked all other ignition connections and found 3 questionable so repaired those, good to go.
