Question If our turbos are watercooled, then....

...why do they glow orange? I have a downpipe, and still boosting no higher than 10psi. It glows around the turgbos and right where its connected to the downpipe. first 2 inches of downpipe sometimes glows too.

The water cooling is just around the shaft bearing - the turbine glows red because rotary exhaust is way hot!

How many miles do you have on your car? List your other mods!

If you have a downpipe and are seeing your turbos glow at 10psi either you are driving your car extremely hard, or you may be looking at a main cat that is starting to get clogged, or your turbo control system may need some work.

My only mod. is a downpipe and drop in K&N. I know I'm having turbo problems (hose, actuator or solenoid problems). My readings are 10-5-10, but suddenly drops down to 7 until redline. Also, sometimes when I shift really quickly from say 2nd to 3rd, it seems like it forgets to open some stuff. PSI would read 2psi around 3500rpm, and then it "remembers" or gets "unstuck" and shoots up to 10psi.

p.s. it has around 40K on rebuilt engine. TUrbos are '95 ones.

Well, my primary turbo has always glowed on the exhaust side. When I sent my motor to Dave at KD, he said the primary looked brand new, with no excessive play. I'm now running an open exhaust and Mobil1, which both should aid in cooling the turbos, and the sucker still glows red hot.

Go figure *shrug*...

I installed it about a month ago. I've only driven it "hard" a couple times. Sometimes it glows, sometimes it doesn't....weird.
