Question Idling Too Fast

The engine in my stock '94 Touring is idling between 2200 RPM and 2300 RPM. Shouldn't it be idling around 800 RPM?

Can idling too fast harm the engine?

There are plenty of threads on high idle problems. Just use the search engine with "idle high problem" and it will pull up a lot of information. Here are a few to get you started:

Both threads have a lot of info about troublshooting idle problems. They should get you started.

Good luck.

just real quick responce...I'm dealing with at 1500 rpm fluctuating idle, figure it is a bad solenoid because the workshop manual states that two of the solenoids, when bad, cause a high fluctuating idle. Check for leaks in your vaccum lines, grab some carb cleaner and start spaying....if you idle changes when you spray a hose you found a leak...replaces the hose. Sounds like a lot of people just find hoses not connected. I have sprayed and found no leaks...so I'm moving onto the solenoids when I replace my vac hoses. Also check your UIM gasket, then can go bad and cause a bad idle as well. And if you don't have a workshop manual...download it or buy one..it's a life saver...and a recreation read for most of us on the board it seems
