idling problem culprit?

ok a while ago i found a screw on my driveway where i park my car. lately my idle has been crazy jumping around 500-900 sometimes it'll stay below 700 for a minute or two.

and i saw this on the TB and i thought hmmm is this supposed to be screwed in on the TB? it has two holes and there seems to be a place for it. if so, what size are the screws/what are they called? and i can get them from malloy right?

since i dont really know what its called. the object/area in question is circled.

thanks

Looks like the cruise control cable and bracket to me. Those are just plain vanilla fasteners, a decent hardware shop would have them.

Hrm weird Idle problem I thought it would be the same as mine. (Need to have the driving lights on so the idle doesn't drop down to 500 rpm when I hit the brakes. With the a/c on it always drops to 400 when I brake regardless of lights.)

BTW WTF is that white thing in your sig?

Those screw holes do not hold anything that controls your idle. You need the fast idle cam tightened all the way in. Open the air adjustment screw on the bottom of the throttle body ope three and a half turns. Then you can adjust it further from the idle set screw on the front of the throttle body. Before you mess with any of that check to make sure the throttle cable is not loose.

The screw that fell out could be the screw that is below the TB and is used to allow more or less air in at idle. Im not sure of the name but it's the screw most people use for slight adjustments to their idle. If this is the case it might cause the idle to hunt like that because it is getting too much air and the ecu is trying to compensate for it. If you know the screw i'm talking about check to see if it is still in the hole.

One other thing to check if your idle is wacky is your alternator. I had a surging idle problem from ~1000 to 1400 and replacing the alternator cleared it (and other) problems right up.

check your idle choke wax. Over time, the wax can get hard and it'll stop the shaft from moving.
