Idle Dips then Recovers....

Whenever i come to a stop light or i am otherwise standing still and i rev the car slightly and let go, the idle goes WAY down then slowly bounces back up to 750rpms.

and also if i tap the pedal once or twice while idling the car will sputter then stall.

although when i am crusing down the highway and do the same things, the idle never drops that low. the symptoms tend to be more prevalent when the engine is hot and has been running for awhile.

maybe make sure your diverter valve is working properly.

Any check engine light coming on? Had that problem recently and it was a bad coolant temp sensor. It was throwing a code which made it easier to diagnose. Also, the problem went away once the car warmed up. With a bad sensor, the ECU screws with the fuel mix if it gets a bad temp reading = idle is all over and car wants to die and then almost impossible to start back up once it stalls. I also heard that a misadjusted TPC can cause this.

i changed the plugs and it seemed to help slightly but that just could have been wishful thinking.

the check engine light isnt on.

the clutch switch would make sense but it does it the same reguardless of the cluch being in or out. does that make a difference?

could someone better explain the dash pot, diverter valve, and tps for being posible causes?

Not to thread jack but I think I have the same problem? Its something small that I just ignore but a fix for it would be cool. Is it like when you ever so slightly tap the gas then immediatly let go the car dies or comes VERY close to dieing? Yet if you give it a good rev it has no problems?

yes to the first question, no to the second for me.

if i rev at all when im standing still, the rpms will fall to almost dying, but when the car is moving its perfectly fine.

Test your dashpot. It may be sticking, stuck, or broken.

A temporary fix would be to oil it with light oil.

Well I have the same problems, its not something I run into while driving normally. I also have occasional small backfires when slowing down, I read these could be signs of a bad dashpot. I have downpipe hfc and rb duals, so maybe thats why I can hear it? Went out and played with my dashpot, it seems fine. I can push it all the way in and it comes back out fine, but its pretty dam hard to push in, is that normal? I sprayed some WD40 on it and tested it it worked fine for about 4 minutes of playing with it, but then it started dieing again.

I am having the same problem as to where i will tap the throttle rapidly, the car will stall itself. No matter what temp the car is at.

Was told it was the TPS and im leaning towards that because it was the last thing that was touched before this problem.

I checked clutch switch and its not that. Everytime the car stalls, it starts up right away.
