ID object found in oil pan

Hey Guys, I took my motor out the other day and when I pulled the oil pan I found a small metal ring. The engine is running with out issue. Can anybody identify what this piece is? Thanks.

I can't tell what it is, but It looks like something that just fell down the oil filler neck and wasn't worth retrieving. The FD pan has a screened pickup so nothing like that is going to get to anything sensitive. Pretty sure there's a 10mm bolt somewhere in mine.

That looks like a Dowel of some sort, like what you would see pressed in the back of the block to help align the transmission and such. Markings on the inside look like thread patterns.

^That's what I was thinking it looked like, but I have no clue how something like that would end up in the oil pan.

Yeah that looks like an alignment dowel/spring pin, though it lacks the typical end chamfers. It has been a while since I saw a front cover removed but there are a couple of alignment pins involved and that looks about the right size for that application. Just mentioning that because it's a possible source if your front cover has ever been removed.

I agree with you guys that it is likely something dropped into the oil filler neck. Its been in the motor for a few thousand miles without issue. I couldn't find anything on the internal parts diagrams that resembled this, but figured it was smart to ask. Thanks for the responses.
