I'm on my 2nd brand new FD oil pan now... The first one blistered and the coating got sucked onto the oil pickup requiring replacement of engine bearings. Very strange...maybe a fluke? Maybe something contaminated during the coating process? So another new pan and a few years later...i decide to reseal my pan because it's leaking more than I would like...and there's another blister formed on this pan, but it hasn't become dislodged yet. It's also in nearly the same place as last time (under the regulator) what could be causing this? Chemical? Heat? Should i strip this part on my next oil pan to reduce the risk?
That is odd. I have seen the coating flaking off on oil pans in general but I think you've had a run of bad luck .
Yeah it being so close to the pressure regulator with the heat there it may take a toll on the coating. I don't see any reason why taking that coating off would cause a problem. That metal will never rust, it's going to be smothered in oil all the time.
Or, assuming you used care pulling it off... taking a little time and trueing up the lip of the old one that didn’t shed paint with a straight-edge, body hammer and dolly.
