The "I want to buy your RX7 " thread
I need to go run a few errands so the I take out the FD to go get gas and a guy pulls up in a Mercedes convertible and says, "How much?" he has temp tags on his car and by the looks of him works at the lot next door.
I say I have owned it for 13 years he looks surprised and says, "nice car" and after a minute of ogling drives off.
My little errand got extended so I could drive a bit more in the next 2 hours I roasted a BMW X6 M when we were merging on the freeway with a EXHRATE plate and got chased by a guy on a pedal bike hollering at me in a WalMart parking lot so he could look at my car for a minute (and ask for a few bucks..lol )
Does this happen to other people? its a little awkward for me but I,m flattered of course,I normally try to be pleasant enough and move on but it is great to have a car that people still get exited about.

Yeah it does, it was even worse when I had my NSX. You just got to be respectful and understanding that not everyone you come across has had the opportunities in life to own such a great car. Its always awesome when you make a kids day if you allow them to sit in "their" dream car. Don't feed the stereotype of a stuck up. Be nice and friendly, it will go along way.

Yeah I get stuff like this often.
My FD is the second registered one in Croatia. You'll have a higher chance seeing Obama walking down the street than seeing an FD where I live.
People stop and ask me questions, some have no idea what car it is. Usually people say they have driven it in Need For Speed games lol

One morning about a week ago, I caught an older couple checking out my car. I went outside to chat with them. They told me that they argued over what color It was all night long, so they had to come back when it was sunny out to settle it. I told them it's called Montego Blue, but I call it the "green car", so now the battle rages on. lol
Then there's the constant 240SX/EVO/STi guys who never miss the chance to rev at my parked car.

This happens to me all the time. Its more people asking what the hell the car is.
In the 8 hour drive home from where I bought it I had over 15 thumbs up and multiple people coming to talk to me at gas stations. The car catches a ton of attention but when I have my 240sx and saw an FD I chased it down to check it out too.
You cant trade the looks of this car for anything!

Yeah I've definitely come across a variety of characters in the one year I've owned this car, and made some new friends along the way. People will follow you home, through the drive thru, chase you across the parking lot. .etc
I get a lot of people that feel the need to show me how fast their car is. I used to live in an apartment in North Dakota with a lot of oil riggers with their monster truck diesels. If I was ever out in the garage working on the car, they'd drive by, see my car, then mash on the throttle right in front of the garage and rip through the parking lot at full speed. ..even though the lot was only about 150ft long. Or my favorite is when you pass someone on the highway, then all of a sudden they feel the need to speed up into your blind spot and pace you. Even if you slowly speed up, they stay right there. But that's ok, when I get pissed off I just give them a taste of the secondary turbo and wave good bye.

I had a guy offer me 23K for mine earlier this year when it was in the shop. I don't know if it was a legitimate offer. It wasn't, and isn't for sale. It has about 72K on it, and about 7K on a mild port rebuild. It runs great, and is really clean.
I'm not sure what I would sell it for. Certainly more than any sane person would pay

Yeah I guess the fact that the car is beautiful and very rare just makes it a special site to see. Sometimes I wonder how many registered LHD FD's have survived since the '90s...in North America its a super rare car, in Europe...the LHD is a unicorn

I've been stationed in an extremely small town for a few years now. When I first got here everyone and their mother wanted to check out the car. Now the couple hundred people in the town have all seen it.
Whenever I take a trip to Dallas I get all that attention again and it feels great.
I know it can get annoying when it's an everyday thing, but don't take it for granted. We put allot into these cars and want some recognition, at least subconsciously.

It's amazing what a body kit does to these cars. Back in the day when my car was bone stock looking, I would get a few looks here or there. Now that my project is practically finished, I get people breaking there necks when I drive by. I've also experienced that blind spot pacing thing.
One time these guys in some big *** hopped up truck pulled up next to me at a stop light. There were 2 cars ahead of me and only 1 vehicle in front of them. They intentionally stayed in my blind spot with a huge gap in front of them just so they could stare. I was like Damn!!!!! Light turns green and I stall out when I tried to take off. I was like ****!!!! Lol! While I sit there restarting the car, those guys are still sitting there in my blind spot holding up traffic in their lane. Yep that was a strange experience.

I've had a few people ask what I'd sell mine for. I'm not really interested in selling, so I just try to think of how much I've spent on this car vs what it would cost to find or buy another one in similar condition, then add $5-$10k because I'm probably underestimating the time and effort it would take to find another one in similar condition. I haven't had any takers, but some people pay out the nose for Supras so might as well give them a chance to pay me a lot of money for this car.

Never had anyone ask me how much I want to sell mine for, have had lots of nice complement tho.
Just this past weekend my wife and I took the FD out cruising around the city, got some thumbs up and stare, and a guy in an NC yank his phone out at a stop light to snap a picture. During an ice cream run, I parked the car on a fairly busy street, in front of me was what I believe an early 70's Porsche 911S. A gentleman walk passed the Porsche and stop next to my car, he then walk around the car a couple times before coming up to us with some questions.

And there is one more that was imported from the US a long time ago and has been siting in a garage under boxes collecting dust for 10+ years, very sad. This one has no papers and cannot be registered.
So yeah mine is the second registered FD of a total of 4. You cannot import an FD into my country as we have very strict rules, the car must pass the latest Euro emission norms or cannot be older than 7 years. Because the FD is so rare here I had to get a special title for it. I had to go through a 2 month import process and register it as an "rare exotic". I had to seek professionals and get their written approval that my car is indeed "worthy" of the title. The main decision was made by the head professor of the University of Engineering, Department of Motor Vehicles. I had to pay him $800 just for his opinion alone, regardless if its positive or negative.
Than I had to pay 25% of the value for emission taxes, and another 5% on top of that. But it was worth it.
People love seeing it. When I bought it the word spread out around town. I had random people (friends of other friends etc) get my number and call me and ask me if they can come see the car lol
I had people leave me their number and saying "if you ever decide to sell it call me first" lol
I met so many new people just because of the FD. Really cool.

I never get anyone asking me about my car. They just seem to stare at a distance, I guess that's what a bridgeport idle does to people, oh and the fireballs.
My buddy who has basically a stock FD gets people bothering him all the time. Personally I think it is because he drives slow and I am usually driving like an ******* weaving through traffic so people just don't have the chance to say anything.
I will say in the span of a week I had two seemingly homeless people with tons of missing teeth want to give me a high five while sitting at a stoplight telling me my car is badass and that he is now "pumped" for the night; whatever that means. That was awkward.

In the 17yrs of ownership, I've had 5 people attempt to purchase my vehicle.
Recently, the car has been getting alot more attention than 5yrs ago. Probably because everything on the street is all boxy and rigid looking.
This is a vehicle that's not only aged well, she's gotten better over time. Like fine wine.
I had 1 encounter with some 20-something in his Daddy's Q5 S. I just managed to take the car out of the garage and was trying to get her up to temp.. I was just minding my business doing the usual 15-20km/h over the limit (alot of the streets in my area have a posted sign of 80km/h but everyone does about 100km/h).
I couldn't look into the cabin too well since the windows were practically limo tinted. Only after I got ahead of him on the right lane (2 lane street) that I noticed he had his gf in the car. Well, the jackass sat in my blind spot trying to figure out what car was it because I could see in my side mirror they were pointing and attempting to see what it was. Alot of people get thrown with the Effini symbols. They finally realize it's a Mazda because I left the tiny Mazda emblem on the back of the car.
Well, I guess he wasn't paying attention all that well when he realized the intersection he was suppose to take a right on was approaching quickly. I was in the right lane so all I see in my side mirror is the front end pitch upwards and the bloody thing just took off and cut in front me.
Gotta say, that Q5 can move. Of course all these people think their vehicles are quick since alot of people in my area drive some modern German machines or Italian machines. It's only when they approach a corner do you know whether they know how to drive.
The guy in Daddy's car slowed down to a crawl to make the right turn on that intersection.
By now the car has gotten some heat into everything, and I have to make the same right. I closed up on him so quick on the braking period I was practically on his back bumper when we were in the middle of the turn.
So I decided to squeeze the throttle a bit. Probably to half throttle. I haven't seen expressions like that in awhile. And I forget how fast the FD gets up to speed before you realize you're doing well above the limit.
Suffice to say the Q5 (which I noticed was an S trim while making that turn) got held up a traffic light or 2 behind. I could see it try to keep up but it was futile. By the time the computer figured out it needed full power and drop down 4 gears from the 8 (or is it 7?), I was 2 traffic lights ahead and approaching the main intersection which was showing red at the time.
I think my car gave out a small pop and some burble after I let the car cruise down to a more reasonable speed.
The power delivery is addictive.
