I get the same thing here in Australia. Where I live, there's about five of them and thats all the FD's that live in this state.

I've had people ask if its for sale, give me their phone numbers if I ever decide to sell it... I've had people ask me what it is. I've had people call it a Corvette (a very very rare thing in Australia also)
I've had people actually volunteer to help me work on the car, if I ever needed a garage or an extra set of hands. They just want to say they've worked on one.

Lots of people have tried to buy it, and when I was test driving new cars at a Ford dealership last year, the salesmen were out the front, ogling my FD and asking if I wanted to sell it/trade it.

Its funny, I take the bus to work Monday to Friday, and I've even heard people on the bus that I don't even know, talking about my car as if they own it- "Yeah I own that black RX-7, yeah, yeah its mine.." etc. Weird.

Because its black on black and its loud, I once drove through an underground parking lot at a mall, and this little kid was walking along the side of the parking lot. He turns around and looks behind and sees the FD approaching. He yanks on his mother's arm and screams out "LOOK MOM ITS THE BATMOBILE!!!" I had the windows down, so I got to hear this as I went past them. This 5 year old kid was grinning like he'd just taken the most satisfying dump of his life :p

One guy even wanted to trade his red Evo IX for the car. I get free burgers for life when I walk into his store now. Its amazing who you meet. They often have Mitsubishis, Subarus and other makes of car, but they all know what the FD is, and they respect that even though its older now, its still the hero car for some people.

All the free food that comes with owning one of these cars is pretty incredible. I've gone from 55kg to 68kg from the "Hey man, hows the RX7 going?! Bring it in some time, you want a pizza/burger/souvlaki!? No charge buddy!!"

I never would have thought you could be fed just owning the fd. Lol
So I guess the biggest thing you have to worry about is keeping fuel in it.

Yes quite often sometimes its a bit awkward sometimes its cool

I try and be friendly when ever I can have a nice car chat in the middle of a parking lot haha

This past Monday I had a security guard chase me down in his golf car to tell me how nice the car was and that him and a few of the other guards had all been talking about it

Week before I had a lady in a Miata stop me in a parking lot tell me how much she loved the FD that she once had one

Stopping by at auto parts stores always is a recipe for comments from the guys

Gas stations as well

Sometimes you get people asking you to do burnouts or to race his buddies mustang then it's when it gets a little awkward at least for me since my tires are to expensive to waste on burnouts haha

this happens to me a lot at gas stations. it's often teenagers or college guys in their early 20s.

sometimes the mostly-clueless people ask me why i'm putting oil in my gas. i tell them it's not oil, it's nitrous, so i can go fast as ****.

"ay, it ain't oil, IT'S NATRUSS, you sumbitch, so i can go fast as ****," and they just get confused and get back in their car.

I've had my Fd for 12 yrs now and have experienced some interesting situations over the years, when I first got it, bone stock in 2002 and drove it to Montreal for the F1 race I had at least 5 older guys in Porsches and Ferrari's pulling along side me on the highway give me the thumbs up it was a nice compliment, I stopped at a bank machine one Saturday with my 6yr old son sitting in the car, when I got out there was an older guy walking around my car peeking into it and almost drooling, turns out he had just bought an Rx8 and thought that was amazing until he saw the fd......asked a lot of questions but was really genuine in his love of rotaries. On my road trip to Deals Gap NC last year, I got lots of questions, looks, people were driving along side with their cell phones hanging out their windows on the highway taking photos. At one gas fill up a guy walked up to me after steering at it for a while and asked me ....."Is that a Viper...." I laughed and said no but they got their design from this car. I am very proud to own one of these Gems and there is never a shortage of compliments when people see the car, from little Fast and Furious fans to older guys that had owned a first or second gen in the past. Whilst at DGRR last year I had a young guy late teens to early 20's begging to trade his black rx8 with heavy mods and body kit....."Key for Key" he said, I laughed and said thanks but no thanks.....Cheers

In 2010 at the Miata's 20th Anniversary shindig, we parked our '94 FD in a relatively empty lot behind the Mazda North America bldg. Wife and I walked back to it for some reason, and found Tom Matano on one knee with camera taking pix. So cool, when the designer approves!

HA! Glad I'm not the only one who thinks so. As soon as I saw the new Viper I was like "hey, looks like they stole the lines from the FD"

never had anyone offer to buy my car. but my car gets stares and thumbs up and comments everytime i drive it. at gas stations, restaurants, where ever. ive had people ask me what car it is. others have paced me and stuck their phone out the window to record video.

i was out eating with a friend once and i parked right in front. we ate by the by the window so we both could see the car clearly. people would walk by and take pics and walk around the car. when the first person did it she asked, "uh people are around your car taking pics and stuff... is that normal?" i said yeah... she says "soooo weird" lol

I would say I get some sort of excited comment 80% of the time I take my 94 touring out. I've only had the car (running) for about 8 months and at least 4 people have come up to me and asked "how much you want for it?" when I'm in/by the car.
I haven't caught too many people taking pictures, but stares are endless. Reactions can be even funnier since I'm only 18. Other young guys in JDM cars either get super excited or super pissed that I'm in an fd and younger than them haha.

Then there are the kids at school who know nothing about cars.. "Woah that kid drives a Porsche?!" ... "What do you mean thats a Mazda?" .. "Oh my gosh your car is so cool, how much did it cost?"

Definitely happens a lot! Its pretty fun though! So many people think its a brand new car, and with the old school Mazda emblems, they have no idea what it is. Mine is sitting in the shop of my dealership next to big brother F250 and people see it and ask if its for sale.

I get a lot of comments here and there about how cool it looks and stuff. When my mom had her FD, she would get so much attention when going out for dinner with her freinds not to mention people begging her to sell it to them!
Last summer, I decided to drop by a local meet as hey had some pretty good wings nearby I came back and saw my car parked beside a Mclaren and some cool looking Camaro and these two little kids were staring my FD like they saw the most epic thing ever. The McLaren owner came up to me and said "They have been there for like 30 min now just staring, it makes me jealous!"

I talked with the two of them and I asked them if they wanted to sit inside, and they went bonkers lol. To add even more feels to this story, the kids were from a foster care and had begged to come out to see some cars and ice cream. I let them sit inside, took photos with them and let the little girl start it up as she really begged I'm soft what can I say

From all the times I talked to people at lapping events, meets or school parking lots, I think that is probably the one memory I can't forget with this FD

Hence, I like FD's cause it makes people happy.

Stopped at a light, a SUV with two older women (mid 60's easy) pulls up in the next lane.

:::window rolls down:::

"Nice car"
Me: Thank you
"dad bought it for you, didn't he"
Me: No, I bought it.
"That's a Ferrari, we know you didn't buy it."

:::window goes up, they drive away:::

One of the last things the original owner I bought my car from told me was, " this thing kinda makes you a bit of a rockstar. ppl. stare and take pictures, and want to talk..."

10 mins later I'm merging in heavy traffic onto I-40 heading home and a guy in a S2000 w/ red wheels is about to rear end me trying to get a picture with his phone. These gorgeous cars certainly do get attention.

I get people taking pics both in the parking lot and while driving.

I had my garage open and my neighbor down the street had company. They walked down to my house and ask to see my car since they saw it while driving by.

Yea same here;

However, most of the time I get these dumbass stories from super experts

"My uncles, cousins, girlfriend's mother has 3 of those rx7's and one has a 4 rotor. You should have done 4 rotor instead of a 3 rotor they sound like F1 cars. I would do it but I personally don't like rotaries they are too fragile. Did you know you can make one by sticking two 2 rotors together? Its really easy call me I'll show you how to do it." - And then drives away in a rainbow colored CRX.

This made me LOL! That is how it always goes. Everyone is an expert on these engines. I ether get people telling me to "Man Up" and do an LS swap or swap in a 3 rotor, they are "really cheap" to swap.
