Angry i think pfs overcharged me for gauge installation. what do you think?

what do you guys think about 5hrs lbr for $350 for installing apexi boost, egt, and oil pressure?? I was at pfs today and peter told me to come in at 9:30 am but when I got there, no one showed up till 10:30am + 5hrs from putting three gauges in for $350!! is that a normal charge or way off??

Did that include the gauges? If so, you got a great deal!

If not, then it sounds about right for 5 hours labor. Usually shop labor is $60/hour...plus any parts/materials they needed.

However, I question whether it would take 5 hours for them to install a boost, egt, and oil pressure gauge.

Where were they installed? A-pillar, below radio...etc.?

Don't be stupid. Of course it didn't include the gauges. And thats not a bad price either. The EGT and oil pressure guages are a pain to install on the FD w/ stock twins. The boost gauge you should have done yourself. That only takes about 15-20min.

egt require the downpipe to come off. that's partly why it was expensive.

why do you have to remove the dp?

the proper way to install a egt gauge is into the turbo manifold itself..as close to the ex port as possible if you put the egt in the dp its almost pointless readings will be off..and delayed

the reason the egt is a pia is b/c you have to drill and tap the cast iron exhaust manifold

350 for 3 gauges installed..and 2 of them are a pia..not a bad deal imho

i wouldnt count the boost gauge.. a retarted monkey could install one

so I gotta decent price, you think? since they charge 2X compare to others also there was no custom mounts involved since I am doing a custom mounts through a body shop. They just connected wires to the right places then get it inside the car.

That doesn't make much sense, but they probably would charge you the $350 whether they were hooking up the mounts or not.

$350 is not bad. It doesn't really matter though, as someone said earlier, if you can't do the work yourself, you can't complain about the labor costs.

come on, don't you think you're being harsh. some of us don't have a place to work on our cars, myself included, even for the smallest of jobs like a boost gauge.

Yea not everyone can tap holes and weld bungs for a egt gauge.

Considering the gauges I'd say it was a decent price, maybe a tad high but thats normal for a rx7. All the work is in the engine bay hooking up the wires/sensors and running them thru the fire wall.

Mounting them is cake, thats the easy part. I dont understand why your needing a bracket made? Where are you mounting these gauges? Why not do a gauge pod???

I don't know about that price being a good deal. When I got my egt installed, they only charged me $35. It took them less then an hour to install it. Maybe the place that I go to just charge less. Boost gauge should be even faster. Probably a max of 30 minutes for those less inclined.

Cool

Dude, that's not a bad price considering they've got the experience installing them and you have a guarantee. Best of all, peace of mind. But in the future, do them yourself. It saves a bunch of cash. Just think. You could've bought an apexi Boost contoller for the money you spent.
