I need your rotorhead opinions
Do you guys think that it is better to buy an FD for lets just say $15,000 with ok milelage, and get it and buy a warranty. Or buy one that needs some work for oh lets say $6,000, do the work and then buy a warranty. It is a tough decision so I fiqured you guys have most likely experienced both situations. I really appreciate it.

From what I hear warranties are getting hard to find for FD's. I got my 93 with 49K on it for $16.5K over a year ago. It's in perfect condition mechanically and asthetically. I'm very happy with my purchase, BUT, I realize that if I would have bought one with a blown engine for say $8K that would have left me with an extra $8.5K to build it up the way I want. The engine is going to go eventually probably before 100K miles so I'll be out another $4K+ so going with a blown one might have been a better choice finiancially. The only problem with doing it that way is you really can't drive it and don't know what other problems might be lurking.

well i purchased a car with a blown engine. it works out better financially but you need ALOT OF PATIENCE. if you can handle being without the car for a long time go that route otherwise purchase a running car.........

I agree w/ Vosko. Financially it sounds like the blown motor FD is a good choice. If I had the time/patience and could do it all over again, I would have bought an FD w/ a great body/interior and a blown motor and the spent the saved money on a new engine built to my liking (ported, reliability, etc.). Instead I bought a decent body/interior w/ a brand new stock engine put in by Mazda. So I do have more of a sense of reliability for now, but soon enough I want to rebuild and get it ported as well as other stuff so I will loose more money in the end.
