HELP: Unusually High RPM Readings?!

This just started happening about an hour ago. I was driving and the tach seemed to be reading about 500-1000 RPMs higher than the engine was actually working. In second gear, the needle is usually fixed at 2K when I'm travelling 20MPH, but now it is around 2.5-3K when I'm travelling 20MPH. The first turbo, which usually kicks in at around 3RPM now kicks in at 4K. If I wasn't looking at the tach, the car would feel as though it were driving correctly but it is as if all the numbers on my gauge have shifted clockwise. I have no clue what it is!

So this problem is not suprising to anyone? In that case, I guess there is nothing to worry about right?
