I need some help...

There's a local used car lot selling a 93 base, I think base, for 5500. It's been sitting there for a couple of years, atleast 3, motor I believe is no good. I can easily turn the motor over without using much strength. It has an AT, I hate that. Paint is blistered and fading, quite a few dings but nothing too major. Title is clean but it is declared a lemon. mileage is unknown, as is 99% of the car's previous history. the main dash harness has been cut when someone removed the climate control. ecu and another computer are laying on the floorbroads. interior is dirty tan with tan leather seats, ripped leather seats. BOSE speakers, sunroof, AC, power steering, cruise control.

I do not have any pics cause I left my camera on while I waited for the guy to show up and ended up draining the batteries. paint color is that green color that turns black when viewed from the side. This guy just wants this car gone so it's not taking up space anymore. If someone could run a Carfax report for me, that'll be great. Please PM me for the VIN number.

So what do you think, worth it or pass it up. I don't really need another car, already get an 86 N/A, 87 TII, and a 94 S10. Thanks

I wouldnt do it...Not for 5500. Some other poster on here just picked up a roller in pretty good condition for like 3300.

Try and talk him down, especially since its been sitting there 3 years.

With a good paint job and good motor rebuild, along with fixing just the things you mentioned, you are looking at least a $14k car. Worth it, maybe, if you want to purchase a fixer-upper to rescue. Who knows what other problems the car may have though.

IMHO, there is no such thing as a good price for this car. It effectively does not have a clean title so sinking money into it would be pointless because you will always have to sell at a discount.

As rynberg said, your are going to have to spend at least $14k for a decent running car, at which point you will still have a car with a lemon title. And it will be an automatic, unless you do the costly and/or time consuming conversion.

Why now just buy something like this:

http://www.craigslist.org/sby/car/161566146.html

and save yourself a lot of trouble?

I take it that that's your car...

The guy selling it keeps emailing telling me to call him, prolly with lower offers. I'm going to see the car next week to take pics of it for a friend looking for an FD, he wants one just to do an LS1 swap. I made a price list on how much everything would cost to repair or replace and so far I'm at 6845, ie motor, paint, dash, dash harness, MT swap,...

offer him $3k, if he doesn't like it, walk out. if you want a fixer-upper, surely there are better examples out there. without knowing what else was wrong with it before it sat for 3 years, you have no idea of knowing what you are truely going to have to replace. you may end up taking the entire thing apart and replacing like 50% of it.

good luck either way

Not my car - just an indication of what you can get in the Bay Area for under $14k or so.

Don't know where you got a number as low as 6845. Paint alone should be close to $5k (unless you do Maaco). MT swap (excluding labour) is $1.5k and a buttload of time finding all the parts. Harness is $700, motor is $3-$5k, other parts $2-$3k+.

so that 12-14k figure is more realistic, damn... I use to fixing my FC's, but never touched an FD before, everything must be expensive

I was thinking of offering around 2.5k for it. the more I think of it, does this guy really want this car gone OR does he just want a nice bonus?

Haha, **** man. Why dont you just offer him what you think is reasonable and call it that. Who cares about what other people think. In the end, all that matters is if you feel like your not getting cheated or anything.

That's what I plan on doing. The only reason I posted here is becaused the only thing I know about FDs is that they look nice, I'm a FC guy. to be even more honest, this is the first FD I ever touched and/or sat in, hell up to about 4 months ago, I never even seen 1 on the streets, at car shows yes, but never on the streets.

Then why don't you buy a decent FD with a clean title? It doesn't really sound like you are even listening to our advice anyway, so why keep wasting everyone's time?

I don't really need another car. I just found this ad and decided to check it out. If I wanted to get an FD I'd just buy one, like the one on craigslist. like I said, I know little about FD's, that's why I posted here, to get advice, which I am.

My advice...dont buy this one. It will be a **** load of hassle. If you want an FD, just buy one that runs good, good body, good mileage, etc...Just follow the FAQ's buyers guide.
