I found a Spirit R tonight!
I wasnt sure where to put this so I put it under the 3rd gen section.
I sold an FD seat on Trade Me tonight (NZ's ebay) and I arranged with the guy to drop it around seeing as I wasnt going to be free any other night for the rest of the week. Anyway I pulled up to his very nice house knocked on the door and this guy that looked about 19 opened the door to me, I explained who I was and he said the money was in his car. The garage door started opening and I caught a glimpse of the rear bumper, I knew what that colour was instantly and as soon as I saw the car my jaw almost hit the ground! It was a Spirit R!
I don't know about many other countires but I only know of 4 Spirit R's here in NZ and only one that was a Type A, now I know of 2!
The guy told me that it was a type A Spirit R and that he had only had it a few months and that he was planning on selling it cause he couldnt drive it (too fast for him), also because he was scared of parking it anywhere in fear of it being stolen.
He told me that he paid NZ $42,000 for it a few months ago an that it had about 42,000kms on the clock, this car was totally stock, had the big brakes, the distinct red carbon/kevlar seats and of course the Spirit R badges and so on.
Well enough of my dribble, I was excited as I had only ever seen one other in my mates garage and that was behind about 5 other FD's (5 of the 13 he had at the time) so I didnt really get a good look. These versions are so much nicer than what I am used to seeing, the seats are extremly comfy, the instrument cluster looks so good etc etc.
I could go on for a bit more but I wont, you dont see these everyday unless you own one!!!
Anyway here are some pics I shot with my phone.

Ha ha yeah 13 seemed alot for any one person!
He was importing FD's alot, fixing them and selling them on. He had 6 good ones in his garage a few more at a panel shop getting repaired. I remember going to his mates place for a New Years BBQ and walked past the main house, accross a paddock to another house but as we walked past the first house there was a red FD sitting there in the paddock! Apparently it was equipped with a massive HKS single turbo etc and there it was just sitting in the paddock as it was just one of his parts cars, but still very complete! I used to envy this guy, his best FD won lots of awards at car shows here and cleaned up best RX7 all up one year. He is still a mate but he doesnt really do the importing side of things now.

No, from what i can remember he stopped a while back due to a combination of rising prices and some dodgy cars that he bought in, by dodgy I mean he thought they were high grade imports but upon compliance they found things wrong like roof chops etc done in Japan. The standard of repairs in Japan apparently dont meet ours over here in NZ. So in short I believe he lost a fair amount of cash in some cars and didnt really want to get burnt again so he only brings in a small amount now and only fast movers like 4wd's and altezzas etc.
