boost problem

Im going to kinda make this an introduction and question at the same time. I just bought a 94 Rx-7 and sometimes it boost like normal and sometimes it'll only boost half way then make a weird noise. It'll do it a few times then clear up. Anything?

Could you vague it up a little more?

What is your boost pattern? If you don't have a boost gauge, go get one. I'll take a wild stab in the dark and suggest that you need to replace your check valves.

i think smit... is right theres no boost pattern it boost to 5 shift goes back to 5 makes the owl noise then goes back to normal to about 8. The best way to explain it is i'll shift to second feel the absence of power, on the boost gauge its at 5 so i let off it makes that owl noise instead of the blow off. After a few of those it'll clear up and boost normal... so does this need fixing or just go with it? Not sure on the RPM because its not working.

Sounds like you have an issue with the turbo control. It requires vacuum and pressure to operate the actuator. I would test that system and verify it's functioning properly. Here's a good thread with some testing info:

https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-generation-specific-1993-2002-16/turbo-problem-first-second-gear-only-tho-677318/

Start there. If the TCA is working properly, then we can start looking at a few other things.

you'll be driving around a 17 sec rx7, and making all the rest of us look bad. you should just get it towed to a specialist if you dont know how to do the fix.

I actually got it fixed for free. A guy who comes into work is a mechanic and actually owns a shop with a rotary specialist. The deal was i let him take it around the block with me he'd fix the boost thing. Turned out 2 of you were right. It was a check valve and one of the vac. lines were a bit twisted up. He cleaned a few things up and it hasnt done it yet. Thanks for the suggestions guys.
