Talking I finally got my downpipe on!

I finally got around to taking the stock piece of crap of of the car and I put a really nice polished stainless steel 3" M2 style downpipe on it.........the funny thing is that it took us 2 days to do it, but we started on Sat. night at about 6 and stopped around 9 or 10 cause we were doing other things and plus we got the studs out so we went and bought new studs, because the other ones had the nuts welded on them and we just couldn't get them off, on sunday and got new nuts and then started putting the pipe on it @ about 2 or 3 P.M. and finally got it in at about 8. We had the hardest time getting the cat end back on the downpipe and don't know why. For some reason the exhaust was crooked and we had to straighten it out O yeah, and the stupid oxygen sensor wire friekin' ripped off the O2 sensor and it was at the base so we couldn't get it back on so I had to go out and buy one. Anyways, it spools up great now! Way better boost response, and once I get exhaust on the car it should have a nice tone to it. Now we are going to change my manuel gear oil tomorrow along with my diff fluid! O yeah and I'll try to get video tape of his brothers 240 SX............only because it has a friekin' SR 20 engine in it!!!!!!!!!!!

Congrats... Where did you get the new studs from... if they are not manufactured by Mazda you might want to change them out at a later date. Reason I say this is because Mazda had a problem w/ their studs breaking and thus redesigned them to hold up to the heat better.

Oh and if you do ever change them go w/ the shorter one's that are used on the turbo manifold.

Thanks guys, I got them from autozone. They are exhaust studs so they should be ok.....and if they weld to the manifold, I'll just wait till the engine goes out and get a new one. Cause the turbos are bad anyways, while we were under there I checked the turbos and realized that the primary turbo is leaking a lot of oil but that's ok, I'm not getting new ones anytime soon so if it goes it goes. I just have to wait till the engine does which will be way down the line since this is a new engine. I also think my cat is torched, so that may be next only because I don't like all that shitty rattling at 2k RPM's. I'm selling my mustang and I'm hoping to get about 3k for it and then I can get a PFC and a silicone vacuum hose job and then maybe exhaust and a 3" in/out high flow cat. That should be a good investment, but if I find that my tranny needs work the money will go to that first because it sounds like it's grinding A LOT and I think my 5th gear synchro is goin anyways! So thanks again guys.

That was one HUGE run on sentence in your first post. Just messing around. Good job on the work though. I have my downpipe right now, and I'm just waiting for the weather to clear up to put it on.

So it took you five hours just to bolt everything back up? Holy sheit! As soon as I read that you bought new studs on a Sunday, I figured that they were from Autozone or something and was going to suggest that you change them out for Mazda ones. But Mercury beat me to it.

Instead of investing your money on performance mods that will ruin your turbos faster and a pfc that you don't need at all right now why don't you start looking for a used set of turbos or have yours rebuilt? You can get a good used set for around 500. That should be your next mod especially with a new motor. I'd check your oil often and add premix till the turbos are replaced.

The cat making noise is bothersome but just deal with it or get a better shape stock cat or a high flow cat if you get a computer along with it. I know you are not ready for a midpipe at this stage even with an ecu.

Good luck

yeah, thanks for the info everyone. I think I will invest in a new ECU and a high flow cat so I can get those out of the way and then I'll get a newer used set of turbos like you suggested. I'll have enough money left over to have them install the turbos too I think. How much are high flow cats? The new ECU is less than $1500, I know that. And then say around $1000 for newer/rebuilt/used turbos + installation right? So the total should come around $3000..........sounds pretty good to me. Thanks.
