I bet no one knows the answer to this

This has always buged me . I have a 94 R2 and my tach ,spedo and AC controls for hot to cold are different I think. My tach goes 1k rpm then a line 2krpm then a line 3k rpm then a line and so on. All others I have seen have ten small lines inbetween the numbers..............My spedo goes 20mph then 3 little lines 40mph and then 3 little lines and so on.All others I have seen go 20mph and then 7 little lines 40mph and then 7 little lines and so on.........Now my AC contol that twists from blue to red are long skinny horizontal blocks. All others are tall fat little blocks with vertical lines that make up the block. Any one else out there that has my style???if so what year and model?????? , At first I thought it was all 93 models that had the other style gauges with all of the little lines and 94 and up they changed it to my style but I have a friend with a 95 R2 and his has the other style gauges like all of the ones I saw in the 93 rx7's. Whats the deal? Does any one Know?

Huh! I could see that, but all of the ones I have seen that have the other style gauges with the little lines the AC control have the little lines too I dont think they would go through the trouble to switch that out too?

I have a 94 R2 and I have the good settings, opposite of yours. I thought the 93's had that style, maybe I thought wrong. But I do have the nice looking settings.

wow I am really confused now that 93 on ebay has my tach but the other spedo with the seven little lines . I wish I could see his AC controll in the pic. This is all good info maybe its just what they felt like putting in that day when they built the car.

I'd be a little suspicious about that car since the mileage is stored in the gauge cluster which he could have replaced. It's also possible he only replaced the tach gauge face but if he replaced the whole gauge cluster then the mileage on the cluster may not be the true mileage of the car.

Your car is how it's supposed to be with that tach and a/c controls. I'm not sure about the 95 but I wasn't aware that they went back to the 93 style tach and a/c controls. It could be possible your friend's 95 had older parts swapped on.

95s have the more sparse markings, your friend has an older gauge panel

BTW, I greatly prefer the 94+ gauges, I hate all the dense hash marks on the 93. As a plus, the 94+ gauges look close to my 79 RX-7 I used to own - sentimental value and all that.

dont worry, the mileage is not stored in the gauge cluster. somebody on the forum tried that trick before, and it did not work.

Yeah actually it is stored in the gauge cluster, where else do you think its stored?? I know this because I just bought a used cluster because I broke a needle on my original one and the guy had about 5K miles more on his cluster than I did on mine, I plugged it in and sure enough, it stayed just where it left off in his car as I had expected so its entirely possible for someone to buy a used cluster with less miles and lie and say its actual mileage,

Mark and I are right, no doubt about it. Maybe if I have never done it before I might question it but since I have swapped out clusters myself and seen the mileage changes I KNOW it stores mileage in the cluster, end of discussion about that, lol.

Cool

I own the '95 that he is talking about. I took a look this morning and this is what I have:

Tach: Has all the little hash marks like a '93.

Speedo: The same as '94+ (says 20, dash, dash, dash, 40) and so on.

A/C: Same as '94+ (Has the 10 broken line display, 5 blue, 5 red, Starts out with two long blue lines and then tapers to smaller lines. Red does the same.

I bought this car from a 60 year old man. The car was bone stock, no mods or changes to the car. It would not seem apparent that he would go and change the tach.

It is very likley to find a 93 with a later Tach as the 93 tachs were/are known to fail. the 93's had the 10 segment heater control markings - the later cars used the 2 segment style marking.

All USA 94'+ RX-7 had fewer ticks on the Tach and Speedo... and the different AC control... and the rougher plastic... any cars with a difference (Roy, the Ebay car, etc.) have had gauges changed. If that CYM on ebay is the same one I saw for sale before he changed a gauge out because it went bad.

The only exception might be a very early 94 model car that may still have the older 93 style parts, since they might not have changed the style precisely when they switched from '93 to '94 models.
