well, i drove the car for about 15 mins. only got full boost twice. about 11psi.
the rest of the time i would hear the primary .. only boost to about 4psi.. then i wierd sound like a spun bearing (only way i know to explain it). like the car just ran out of air.. weird.
but the two times it did spool were REALLY nice. i thought i heard air leaking like when i used to have a leak in my FMIC piping.. i'll have to check it all out.
got him down to $13k, though 'cause i'll be having to do repairs right off the bat.
these cars sure have a weird blow off sound...

The stock air box has a hole in it to allow better airflow for the intake. Some of the sound you are hearing is from that hole. It's about 2" by 5". There is a shield next to it to keep warm air from entering the intake. The air filter is a K&N. Not many miles on it.

Did you buy the car?

i didn't notice a hole or a shield.. it looked to have the stock air box. i saw no shield. maybe the dealership switched it back?
i'm checking with my credit union to see if i qualify for a THIRD auto loan. if so then i have to have make sure my friend is buying the acura.
im sooo gonna miss that car. i'm giving up a 12-second integra for a 13-second RX-7 that is gonna cost an arm and a leg in mods/insurance fees.. hmmmmmm. LOL
i should know everything by the end of the week (i'm thinking my friend will lag on buying my car 'cause he has to go get a loan too).

The modification is to the underside of the stock airbox. That's the beauty of it. It's not visible, and the smog guys won't see it. It just looks stock.

If you stand in front of the car, look just under the passenger, front side of the airbox. You will see a piece of aluminum. That is the shield. Info here:

When you resolve the boost issues, and get a downpipe, you will have your 12 second car.

We changed the spark plugs recently, so that's not the problem.

You guys are right bout the oil cooler and sun/moonroof. I have an 94 R2, and the another difference is that R2 has passenger side airbag.

Thanks

AFAIK, all 94's were equipped with both pass side and drivers side airbags. Also the 94's had R-134A refrigerant. The R-1 and R-2 were special in the following ways. NO :sunroof, cruise control, Bose, Factory CD player, Factory fog/driving lights rear window wiper/washer. HAD underhood strut Bar, 2nd oil cooler, Z rated tires, different strut dampening (stiffer) rear spoiler and front chin spoiler. Also for 93, R-1 was only available in CYM (Yellow), Red, and Black. I had to decicide between these colors when I bought mine new. I still have the '93 brochure listing the way the cars were available. I am unsure about the 94, 95 color choices thougth. I still laugh when I see a CYM car with a sunroof, a wanna be R-1.
