how to reset ecu

when i first bought my FD from the local importer, he had to reset the ecu because on my test drive the engine would cut out at 4k rpm. afterthat the car ran fine ( still needs a tuning job and will be putting a microtech in to help the boost issues ).. so i drove the car 5 days ago it still drove the same but today when i left my house the same thing happened as on my test drive, it would cut out at 4k rpm in 1st and 2nd gear (didn't bother takin it to 3rd).. so my question for you is how to reset my ecu? its the stock ecu because the only engine performance mods are HKS hardpiping, 4" apexi exhaust, and when i first bought the car the importer put in new vacuum lines

Unplug the negative terminal from the batter for about 1 minute.

Some cars' manuals also indicate to depress the brake pedal a few times to disperse any 'residual' voltage.
