How to remove the rear brake rotor?

Is it just take off the caliper, and that big nut in the middle of the rotor, then your done? Or is there more to it? I ask because I broke a stud for and have a new one ready to go in, I called firestone just to ask how much they charge (just curious) they said 40 dollars and it takes about an hour. I'm just waiting till my day off to do it myself so I was curious if it's really that bad

If you search, this has been covered before many times

(a) thread on a pair of lugnuts a few turns.

(b) procure rubber mallet

(c) use said mallet to smite the rotor edges mightily, alternating the sides you smite

(d) If (c) doesn't work, move up to a brass hammer (this if you don't want to reuse the rotor)

(e) If you *do* want to reuse the rotor, and (c) no workie, then proceed to buy a gym membership.

Did you break a wheel stud? If so, removing the brake rotor is the least of your worries

if you've already taken the caliper off, to get the rotor off, if you look around the area where the studs are there is a small threaded hole. get a 12mm socket and take out one of the rear sway bar mount bolts (holds the bar to the frame), thread it into the hole on the rotor, then thread one lug nut on a few turns and then wrench on the 12mm a little bit (dont go too hard on it, you dont want to break anything) and that should pop it loose. just dont forget to put the bolt back in the sway bar mount!

I just did mine and the rears did not have the 12mm hole. Only the front calipers had that luxury.

i guess some brake companies are more generous than others, all of mine had them and so did the new ones.

Rich, that is the funniest instructions I have seen for a while!! hahahaa!!!

When I did my brakes a lil while ago that is basically what I did. If they have been on there a while they will need a good bit of convincing to come off...

Rotor Removal

You need to remove the caliper. On the rotor are some threaded holes. Put a bolt in the hole 10 or 12 mm keep tightening it until you hear a loud POP it will then be loose and you can remove it.
