how to remove main coolant connector from block?

I'm getting ready to ship this thing out soon for a rebuild, I was wondering if you have to remove this connector, and if so....how?

Nope, just wrap some bubble wrap or something around it so it won't poke through your box and let it ship.

That is a press fit nozzle. Don't disturb it

I think he's refering to the plastic piece that attachs to the hard pipe. It's pretty easy to break or damage if it's left on there. I trust Mahjiks advice , but I'd be a little leary of it being damaged if left on int shipment. Just my $0.02

Well.......I can't find any way to get it off (the plastic piece from the tube from the block) so I guess it is gonna ship out this way!

Thanks, guys.

all you have to do is squeese the two pieces that are visable in the openings (square looking) don't pry as you'll break the small web pieces. Once you compress the two little tabs towards the pipe you can then pull straight out on the plastic piece, may have to twist and turn it a bit. get a tie wrap as you'll want to note the order of the two o-rings and (IIRC) a nylon seperator between the two o-rings, then you can remove the piece you compressed and keep it all together. This thing is allot like the pressure plate relaese, once you've done it it's quite simple. Sorry as I could have posted that earlier. Jack

Mazda calls it a quick disconnect. It probably took me longer to get that thing off then it took to get my engine out all together. Quick my ***. I just threw it away.

supposedly it's there to act as some sort of insulator between the hose and the metal pipe. Not sure if it really matters as I've read post where it's been removed and no issues or hose failures have resulted from it. I know getting it back on was a pain in the butt as you have to stuff those o-rings and nylon seperator in there then get the "quick clip" compressed back into the nipple. Once I got it figured out (and didn't break it) during the reinstall of the motor I wasn't about to throw it away. Like I said it's like the pressure plate release "once you do it. it's simple" LOL

I hate that thing. I usually break it off and put the heater hose on there with a proper hose clamp. It is none to break and cause coolant leaks. m pretty sure the purpose of it was because that hose tends to get stuck onto the metal pipe.

Next time I have my engine out I am going to remove the nozzle, tap it and plug it off properly. I removed my heater years ago.
