How old were you..

when you first got your FD, or any RX7 for that matter? Just out of curiosity I am trying to see the range of ages for first time rx7 owners. Thanks.

Yes it should've been a poll but I didn't realize it at the time I made it. Too late to change it now.

It's good news to me to see younger first time buyers. I am going to be 17 in a week, and I'm trying desperately to convince my parents to let me get an FD. That say that I am too young, but on the contrary I am a responsible driver, and I already know how to drive stick. Maybe by showing them this thread and the age group they will change their minds.

Yeah, I know we're not suppose to generalize, maybe your the exception. But based on the history here of guys your age buying these cars, and being a fossil parent of a 17 year old myself....I agree with your parents.

If your parents love you and care about you....you WON'T get that FD.
I don't know how long you've browsed our Forum, but one of the most often posted topics is "I just got my FD!"
Soon followed by, "****....I just TOTALED the FD!"
It has happened countless times. These cars are just NOT for the young, unskilled, inexperienced driver. You may as well stick a can of gas in one hand and an open flame in the other. Disaster is a near certainty.
Sorry.

man, the fd is not a car someone's parents should buy for them. have them get you an fc. trust me, you do not want to kill yourself just because "you wanted mommy and daddy to get you one." wait until you can afford to buy the car yourself, and get it.

anyway, I was 20 when I bought my fd, and am 21 now, but wanted an fd forever.

20 when I got it and I'm 22 now. I wouldn't recommend getting an FD at age 17 either. You have to face the facts that 1. You're going to speed. and 2. You're not a very experienced driver. Those two factors alone are the biggest selling points for NOT getting an FD. Start off with something that's not quite as fast, like a Celica (my first sports car), RSX, or an Eclipse. You'll be able to push the car to it's limit (on a track) so as to gain the reflexes and driving skills that you'd need to handle a car such as this (again, on a track). If you try to make the argument, "But I don't ever speed or try to push the car." Then why get one at all? It's all really about being honest with yourself.

See the difference with me is that I am not some badass 17 year old who just got his license, wants his parents to buy him the sick car they saw in Fast and Furious, and go out and do 120mph on the highway. I am going to be paying for the car myself, I am going to be maintaining the car myself. I am a very responsible driver. I had a friend who was killed in a car crash due to irresponsible driving, and I have a friend that wrecked his 350z on the same reason. I know how to handle a car and when the time to have fun is. Of course you're going to say "No you don't you're too young." Think what you want, but I know how I drive. If we do any racing, it is going to be 100% legal, on a certified or legit course.
