How often does everyone add coolant?

Hey everyone,

I've been having some coolant issues which I believe have been taken care of sinc changing out the the thermostat and replacing the pressure cap on my AST. Before doing this, however, I was having to put coolant in every 2-3 days. I would probably add a 12 oz cup worth of it and then be fine for the next couple days, then repeat. After changing out the parts I mentioned above I've put around 150 miles on the car and have yet to have any coolant issues.

Now, I'm just wondering how often does everyone add coolant in their car? Is there a recommended time-frame for adding coolant (every "whatever" miles or so)? I'm just trying to figure out if my coolant problem is truly fixed so I'd like to have some sort of reference to work with. Thanks in advance.

Riz

If your not leaking from a line, hose or gasket, and your caps and coolant seals are good, why would you have to add any coolant?

you shouldn't have to add any coolant. our cars only eat it when a o ring goes south. She's not hungry for it like oil.

i drove mine for a good 1400 miles (plus dyno tuning in that same timeframe) without any problems, but then i had to add about a quart when my coolant buzzer came on. since adding that quart the buzzer has gone away and i haven't found any puddles or leaks, so i'm kinda at a loss as to what happened

Never, but did have a problem with the line from the fillercap to the resevor(no ast).. The line had a small pinhole.. not enough to leak coolant.. but enough to suck air back in instead of water when the engine cooled down.. changed the line and problem solved.

Farhan I had your same exact problem a long time ago. A full water bottle every 3 days, with no visable leakage. Took me awhile to figure out it was the AST cap, but ever since I never have had to refill it, ever. I flush my cooling system once a year.
