Ha. I know this will get some response. I love the FDs. I am just saying that honestly alot of people don't think that they hold up. Ive heard that the rotary was a messed up design back then and they could never get it to work right...Just wondering if you guys could give me any info on why people think this and what your experiences have been...I figured this was the place to ask this question...

and so how much would I be spending on a decent FD with decent mileage? both of which you have to fill me in on what is decent.......

also how much is repair on stuff....i have heard that you need a specialized mechanic to work on the rotary cause a regular one wont know how to...

basically i am a noob with a bunch of annoying questions...but if you wanna fill me in with any info feel free....i really would like to know more about these cars.

RX-7's are not practically bullet proof like a, say a honda. They require alot of maintenance, reliability mods, $$$ & TLC.

I think the responses you are getting are more related to your topic and attitude more then anything.

That right there would, and will, **** off most owners. People don't like being told their car sucks, and thats just about what you did. Then again...

Another hit towards the RX-7, about something most people here love (maybe even a little too much). It shows that you didn't even bother with a search to find exactly what is asked every week, let alone click the topic on the forum designed for people like you, new to the RX-7.

Really their suggestions are good, as it appears you have little interest in the rotary engine, let alone a clue how it works. They are really saving you alot of money on mechanics and aggrivation on something you don't understand.

To finish it off...

Tell someone not to be a dick, then you go and do it yourself? With a very childish remark at that.

Seriously, read the links if you're truly interested. However, based on the attitude you've show thus far, I personally agree with the masses and say I don't think you're at the maturity level you need to be to own an FD.

 

There are not many ******** here at all. Just some individuals who are tired of seeing the typical "new to RX-7s" or "is it true" threads. Now I am by no means saying they condemn the newbie……we all were at one point. But there is a stickied thread at the top of this section with links for new comers interested in a FD. Also, even simply reading posts overtime will give you a good indication of the car and its issues.

To answer your question, yes FDs definitely do take more effort and know-how to keep them running properly. And they have a lot more quirks than your run of the mil car, for example a Honda. Is the rotary engine a bad design......well this is an opinion based question, but if you were to ask my views, I'd say NO. And even with that know-how you will experience issues. It is an aspect of owning a FD.

This is actually a really friendly forum.........so don't get the wrong impression. Just take a little extra time to check out what this section offers before making a thread. Using the search function will also get you more responses than creating a thread will. Just do some basic searches regarding your questions, and they should be answered. And taking the extra effort before making a thread similar in nature will result in the individuals in this section being much more open and willing to help……basically its all about how you go about doing things on here. And again, because of what you stated in your initial post. I think you need to do some more research about RX-7s and the rotary engine before really getting involved with the ownership of one. Given some of your statements, it makes me think (and it appears others as well) that you lack the enthusiasm and love for RX-7s and the rotary engine needed to own one.

Other than that......welcome to the forum

 

1. the rx7 is a legendary piece of engineering and it DOES work which leads to my second point.

2. mazda won many races, some for several years in a row with the rx7 and its rotary engine.

3. it does not take neglect well. someone who tells you that the rx7 sucks might be the same shmuck who didnt take care of it properly.

4. You must learn to do maintenance and other work on it yourself or hope that you live near one of the handful of rx7 specialist facilities in the country. The average mechanic knows nothing about this car and will only **** it up. Mazda dealers are just as bad for the most part.

5. yes, parts cost more than the average car.

6. the normal lifespan of a third gen's engine is less than 200k miles, often less than 100k. This is something you accept going in. Taken care of properly, it will perform extremely well right up to the point of death.

7. everything i have said is a generalization based on my own experiences and what others have written here on this forum.

8. check the sticky threads and do searches before you open your mouth next time.
