How much was an FD in 1993?
does anyone know the retail for one of those? LOL!!! gay *** fast and furious, anyways i just had an argument with my friend about how a 1993 rx-7 was cheaper and faster than any other car in the market back in 1993. Then him being a NON believer in rotary power was saying how an fd was 50k bucks. is this even close?i was thinking more liek 35k at most

im pretty sure the were 30-32k.
i just remember seeing the price hike on the 91 verts to 27k at the autshow, then realizing that with the new FD bodystyle I'd never be able to afford one through college.

Window sticker on my 1994 PEP indicates:
MSRP: $36,500
Floor mats: $80
CA/NY Emmissions Equip.: $150
Pop. Equip. Group: $1800 (leather, sunroof, cargo cover)
Inland Freight: $425
Total Vehicle Price: $38955
Add whatever ~8% tax was in effect at the time...pushing $42000 off the lot, assuming the original owner paid sticker price.

I believe at the time, there was a luxury tax on all vehicles over 30K...so that was a big barrier and along with new model markups, increased the cost even more. My memory says it was a 10% excise tax on the amount over 30K.
If he's using the Supra for leverage, remind him that, FWIK, the Supra's were always around $40k, ~$50k by 98. They were, are, and will always be more expensive, for very similiar performance #'s stock to stock.

Clinton signed the Small Business Job Protection Act in August 1996 which called for phasing out the luxury tax. After January 1st, 1997, the level was raised to $36k, and the tax rate was lowered to 8%. On the first day of each successive year, the rate was lowered 1% until 2003, the last year for luxury tax.
I paid luxury tax on my '95, bought new in April of '97, but at $37,500, it was only 8% of $1,500 or approximately $120. I got hit harder by Washington State's (then) lame licensing/tab fees, which were over $900.
