Thumbs up How Much Does It Cost To Make Back Seats In The FD?

Ive seen them in some, but when I look at the regular 2 seaters, theres barely any room for seats...

They would have to chop the back half wouldnt they?

Would it mess up the suspension?

Info appreciated.

Rear seats were standard on some models of Japanese FDs. Asking price for used sets are generally around $400-$500.

To convert, you would need:

bottom seat cushions (one piece)
left and right rear quarter interior panels
seat belts
seat back/cargo divider

and probably a few other odds and ends I missed. No hacking involved.

Back seats are pointless in FDs though.

You end up having to lose the rear strut bar, and it has crappier impact resistance which is why it wasn't allowed in the U.S.

im sure everyone would rather have them than the rear bins

wtf are you supposed to do with them? I think that's a design flaw with the rx-7 they just didn't know how to setup from the seats back.

I'd love to have seats back there. It would be original and if you really waned to you could fit 1 person laying down or 2 people very uncomfortably

Why do people insist on saying stuff that isn't correct.

The rear strut bar stays. It does not reduce impact resistance since the structure is not changed.

jeff would you fly down to my house and help me pull and install a new motor? I'd pay for your flight, hotel, food and anything else you want.

After I sell my fd I plan on getting one with a blown motor and starting all over.

Why would you sell it and start all over?

I'd love to come down, but I've got too much going on here right now. I've got 4 FDs at my house, this week it'll be 5!

And I work full time, at a regular job...

5 fds thats sick! man there's like a 40% chance that the next fd that I get could have been worked on by you haha

Yeah, nothing intricate like luxury seats or anything..

Just some seats that'll get the crew around in case I wanna fit more than 1 damn person.

I like to refer to it as a leather-upholstered golf club carrier; moreso than a back seat.

I wouldn't want to be the poor soul that has to sit back there. A two door sportscar with a back seat? why? I guess you could lower your insurance payments having a back seat. I'm only 5'7" and I pretty much have the seat against the bins which I like by the way. It holds my cd changer and my car club.

I once thought about rear seats, but then I realized I have a 4 door if i want to bring more people around. for the price of backseats you could go buy a beater 4 door.

If there is some kind of catastrophe, I just do the thing where the third person lays on the bins with their shoes off. I drove my bro and a friend 20 miles that way when I borrowed my protege to a friend for the week.
Man I'd of hated to have to lay back there for 20 minutes!

Sometimes more... mine (in the attached picture) were exported from a Japanese model 2001 FD so the leather is in brand new condition.

Yep. All the connection points for the seat belts, etc. are already there, just bolt them in.

The extra one can sit in back in your car, but sit in my lap when in mine.

What about in this case.

U love ur rx7 dearly.
But i've noticed way too many people having to sell because their woman had a baby.

U could use a rear seat to put a car seat or some setup like that to keep from having to sell your FD or buy another vehicle.

Dood, if the FD is the new family's only car, then they've got some screwed up priorities.

All kidding aside, anybody interested in putting in rear seats: take the advice as just that - just a little insight. In the end, it's your car and you should do what ever you want with it, damnit.

I managed to fit 5 girls into my car one night.. not kidding.. the tallest one must have been like 5' 5" but it was tight. two in front and 3 in the back. Those back seats come in reallllllly handy and plus, you can hang on to your FD for a few more years if you have a kid and the wife wants you to get an SUV !
