I paid 7,000 for mine in Januray of 1997 needed a new engine and trubo because it was stolen and they hit something and crack the radiator, But I did all the work on mine myself and also I was aware of the bad problem with the fds. I got my new turbo for $850.00 and new engine from the dealer for $1750.00. Oh yeah I also got a second engine form the dealer at no extra cost because when I installed my engine it leak like crazy and I took it to the dealer and a mechanic did the troubleshooting and told the service writer that my engine is shot, so they order a new engine with new style oil injector's and gave me about a week to take back the dead to them. Big mistake the mechanic made it was not my engine it was rear seal and engine mount was leaking, so I brought a nogood engine for 300 and hand it over to the dealer, and my suppose to be dead engine only have 15 mile's on it total.how u like that
Paid 16,200 with 53K miles...stock R1 except for Pettit vac tie wrap. Happened on it by chance one day in the local newspaper...two days later it was mine...my very first sports car ever.

I LOVE this thread. Someone please remember it when we get one of those "$28,000 isn't too high for an FD" and "C'mon, we can talk up the price of our cars" threads in which people get all emotional and pissed off because they see the natural depreciation of their cars.
BTW, I believe absolutely the purchase prices people are reporting here. It's some claims of unusually high sales prices that I'm skeptical of.
I guess I have to pay to play here. Bought my '95 with the PEP option new in Aug. '95. List was $40, 380.00
Through my better than average shopping and bargaining techniques, I paid $34,843.00. RX-7 sales were extremely slow at the time and there was even a leftover stock of '94's, which meant supply was way higher than demand.
*just to add a little qualification. The list price on the purchase agreement was $39,980, but by the time the car actually arrived on the dealer's lot, the list price on RX-7's had increased, and the window sticker that came with the car listed the total vehicle price as $40, 380.
This price did not include tax and license, which were additional.

$37,500 (sticker was $41k) for one of the last new '95 PEPs in April of 1997. It had been kicking around somewhere in Japan and had only been imported to the United States in March. The interior was still covered in shipping plastic, and it still had the hood and roof protective film on it, 104 miles on the odometer.
i paid $200 for mine. it was running and except for needed a new roof and having a few dents ran very good. had 73k on it. i put 20k and let my brother drive it. of course he blew the motor. right now it is basically getting restored and ever last peice is either getting polished powdercoatd or painted. even all the bolts are getting replaced
Of course, I think I got the best deal on a third gen:
Bought a brand spankin' new R1 with 6 miles on the odometer for $24,700 in May 1993.
The Hempstead Mazda dealer was full of new third gen RX7's at the time - no less than 4 black, 3 red, 3 yellow and another 4 montego blue.

I think mine was the cheapest FD3 ever. I bought mine from a Dealer in Baltimore MD. for $7.900 and no taxes. Cars has a new engine, a messed up 5th gear syncro but I bought a used tranny froma Mechanic in Florida on Ebay. Car Runs Great. Might need some turbos rebuilt but for right now it pulls hard except it leaks oil. but for the price i think i was really lucky to find a bargain like that. It was a small dealer and They understimated the conditions of the Car.
So far the car is excellent shape. Compression test shows 9.2/8.9/9.0
Well, I live in Alexandria, VA so if you see me around its me.
Peace

wow u guys are real lucky, i looked around for 6 months before i bought my 94 mb touring for 21500 w 35 k mi on it every 7 i looked at under 20000 was inferior to mine purchased in 20months ago
Bought my '93 R1 for $12K, 82K miles, 10K on reman engine ... and for $200 extra, the guy threw in an extra set of stock rims with some Kumho Victoracers still attached (kinda hard but nothing some Formula V can't fix), Mazda logo RX-7 car cover, Mazda logo RX-7 bra, and a set of Hawk HP+ pads (slightly used). Car came auto-x ready ... GAB Super R's and Tripoint adjustable sway bar (front).

wow im actually very surprised... i was about to give up even considering buying an FD becuase of 1. the price 2. rebuild that would be needed in a couple months 3. extra money needed in teh bank in case somethin goes wrong
but i after readin this post im thinking $11k will cover a fd with blown motor and all the love it needs to get it back on the road (labor free except for engine rebuild?).. plus my cousin owns like 3 dealerships so im guessing this might work after all woooohhhoooooooo
