It doesn't "drastically improve" air flow. It's a similar mod switching the stock "accordian" intake pipes to hard intake pipes. Mostly, just just for looks.

I don't think the Greddy SMIC is being made anymore. You might not have a choice other than getting a used one. It's not something that goes bad over time so there is no problem getting a used one.

Unless you are building a track car, upgrading the radiator and verifying that all your coolant hoses are in good condition is enough.

Unless you "need" your wastegate ported, don't do it.

Mazda Makes A Air Dam That Bolts To The Bottom Of The Car,and It Has An Air Scoop That Rushes Air To The Radiator,so Having A Fmic Will Not Hurt...........

i want a FMIC, but i wont sacrifice a degree in water temps. reliability means more to me than power.

You may also want to do some sort of a fan mod or replace your stock thermoswitch with the miata thermoswitch to kick the fans on at a lower temp. Do a search for "fan mod" and "miata thermoswitch" and you'll get all the info you need.

if youre going to go with a smic try the pfs smic. Its roughly 3 times the size of the stock intercooler. Some guys use it for single turbo setups.Plus you can usually pick one up for around 700 dollars and it also comes with a duct to get fresh air from the front of the car.Ive heard of slight fitment isues with this unit when upgrading to a larger radiator. Basically you have to trim the ducting about 1 inch where the duct meets the intercooler. Im waiting for mine to arrive as we speak. One things for sure though.
I have a buddy that has one and it works much better than my stock one. Also a better intercooler should lower the chance of detonation due to high intake temps. So in a sense it can be a reliability mod. Plus your turbos will have to work less to produce the same amount of boost due to a more efficient intercooler design and flow. Therefore lowering intake temps as well as the underhood temps.Basically because the turbos will be working much more efficiently. Most likely also adding life to your turbos.
