Are you a Filipino by any chance? Hell ya, that’s a tradition in the island. Everyone stays together. From great grandparents to great grandchildren.

Hehe, not Filipino or islander at all, but that's a good tradition. Sometimes I feel guilty for having such a nice car at my young age, but these things are tough to find, I don't mind being broke for a while until I pay it off. I justified this purchase by thinking of it like an investment: I'll have a classic on my hands in under 10 years.

Talking ultimate sacrifice...

Way back in 1993, I first got the fever for a 3rd gen "7", but as luck would have it, I had just been blessed with my newborn little girl, so my plan for a new "toy" was put on hold...for the time being...10 years later and a new wife, a new step-son, along with my 12 year old daughter, the fever hit again. My current "toy" was a 1999 Harley-Davidson Nighttrain that never got any road time. My step son and I were still in the bonding process when "Fast and the Furious" hit the DVD market. His intrest in the cars from that movie inspired my to kill two birds with one stone...I sold my Harley and bought my 1994 Montego Blue 7. He and I have spent many hours doing the simple mods on the car and even got to take it to the Thursday night Street Fights here in our home town of Bristol, Tennessee. Lining up beside 5.0 Mustangs and "Muscle Cars" and completly embarrassing them on a weekly basis was the ultimate payback and did wonders for our relationship. We are now in the process of doing a few cosmetic upgrades and looking forward to "unveiling" the new look this spring at the track and watching those Mustangs and other "muscle cars" in our rear view mirrors again.

When U love a car this much it doesn't matter how much or how, just that now you have one! I bought mine with lots of miles and it needs to be rebuilt but the car and interior is in GREAT shape which means when I finish with the rebuild and mods - it'll be one fast bitch!

I really think this poll cannot be accurate unless the additional stipulation of:

"and you do NOT live at home or have free rent."

is added.

Too young my friend.

Start with something more tame. In order to actually learn, you do not first jump into something ultra-capable that you will never outgrow - instead you get a car with limits - limits actually teach.

I was looking at the new Rx8. Mazda salesman was eyeing my FD, and asked if I were trading my FD in for the Rx8. I said, "HELL NO!"

I was soo close to paying mine off. Then I decided to mod the car... bad move. Now that my life savings is gone I have a bad *** fd and a broken daily driver. Add in the recent engagement and this = me having to sell my car. Learn from my mistake, pay off the car before you go crazy with mods...oh yeah, i'm 21 and for the past two years have worked 60+ hrs a week to pay for it.

SleepR1,

I always get asked if I'm gonna trade for an RX-8 when I go to the parts dept; of course I'd never do that, hmmm, lol.

-C

But on topic; I did not pay for my RX-7 or my Jeep. My Mom did, and I'm very grateful. She gets to drive any time, she had the first FD in the family...which was sadly sold. A '93 red base model with 18k miles, . I wish I had that car now!

She's also had an '85 base, that car is still on the road at well over 230k miles. My grandfather has had a load of 1st gens, more than one at once...just sold an '85 GSL-SE with 79k miles. I have one uncle with an '86 GSL, and another with a Turbo II. The RX-8 is next, 'yeah I think you should get it Mom.'

She's in my name even though the engine is out of it getting rebuilt/ported and I'm planning on freshening up the suspension/ body/ and interior before she goes back on road.

I live at home and I don't pay rent.

Oh wait. You're talking about kids.

I own the home and the mortgage is long finished.
