I've always wondered how that compared globally.

It's easy to figure how many were made. BUT IT'S HARD TO FIGURE OUT HOW MANY ARE STILL LEFT ON THE ROAD.

# of fd's

I heard somewhere there were only 3000 registered in the us but since there were about 10000 made thats probably wrong although I have certainly heard my share of accident stories and you do see em getting parted out quite a bit.

Yeah I very rarely see them even in LA they are very rare to find, almost impossible to locate a car dealer that has one.

Unfortunately...fair or not...the FD's reputation makes most dealers not want to bother with them.

Thats by PRODUCTION Year BUT ALL the 92/93 North Americian cars were sold as 93 Models OFFICIALLY there are NO North Americian 92 RX-7s also Convertible FC3s production overlaped the FD's and they were available in N.A. along side "93" FD's as "91s" through the 92 Model Year

The real answer to how many are left is to start a registry. It's been done for other makes.....the various Shelby cars and the Pantera are two that I'm familar with.

People are often saying they want to increase the value of the 3rd Generation RX-7 and make it collectable. One step that could be taken to help bring that about would be to start a registry.

I'm not willing to take on the job myself, but if someone wants to volunteer, I can put you in touch with someone who's done it.
He sells copies of the registry to owners and prospective buyers....who knows?....he may even break even on his efforts, though I doubt it.

I think that one of the RX-7 tuner shops queried the number of registered FDs in the states. That is a sensible thing to do in determining the size of the market for the products and services you offer. I don't remember the exact number, but it was about half of the number sold -- perhaps 7000 or so.

Woohoo! Talk about having a rare car. I hate to see FD's wrecked, but damn, doesn't it feel cool to have one of <10000 cars (if only in the country :/ )? I know it does for me. There are plenty of FD's in the SF bay area still...I drove mine to work today and I saw at least 2 yesterday, so I'm guessing that we're still nowhere near as rare as Ferrari's, but getting there.

Just hope this doesn't mess with insurance...a rare car is bux to insure :/
