Get off their backs. Ppl like how it looks, then let 'em do it. No one's got a right to impose their views of what does or doesn't look good on someone else. And naturally, you'll quickly learn to love something you see being done by those you admire. All the D1 Drift cars run lazy headlights, so it's easy to see how someone who loves that scene would quickly fall in love w/ the look. Nothing wrong w/ it at all.

I say do it, and if you do it right, it can come off looking really nice.

FYI, it has nothing to do w/ being young or old. One of our oldest forum members, Wael El-Dasher, who spent more money on his FD than prob every one of us in this thread combined ($150K+ in receipts) was one of the first to do this. I recall a certain thread when he posted this, and everyone who's OLD on this forum was jumping up and down, applauding it

Hey, you read that right. Here's one of (the many) threads: https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-generation-specific-1993-2002-16/fd-ebay-%24150k-receipts-256239/

IIRC, he sold the FD (to Fritz, the official FD Undertaker haha ) and bought a Lotise Elise when it first was released.

Couldn't find the original thread Wael posted re: his sleepy eye headlights (IIRC, it was a writeup of how to do it), but here's Fumanchu's thread about the headlights, installed on his FD, after he bought 'em off Wael: https://www.rx7club.com/interior-exterior-audio-26/pics-my-sleepy-headlight-conversion-284859/ Notice how many old (agewise) members on the forum applauded the headlight kit, said they loved it, how it looks awesome, etc... and then ppl come on this thread started by a less known/respected member, and trash the hell outta him for the same mod. Hypocrisy and double standards at it's best...

^^ Wael did not do this to make his car look "sleepy" or "lazy." He did it because he had aftermarket lights that were about half the height of stock headlights, and his car would probably have looked a bit silly otherwise. Thanks to Yellow Man for posting a link to the "correct" way to do this, for those with different headlights installed.

The FD's stock headlights barely light up the road as it is, I really hope you guys aren't driving at night with your OEM headlights pointed at the ground.

Wael El-Dasher.. He's a super nice guy. I talked to him about his sleepy headlight kit before he sold it to Fritz, who sold it to someone else, and now with Roman. Keep missing Wael's lights.
I just need to make one!

And yes, Wael El-Dasher acturally spent over 150k on his car. He believed in doing things right. I have his McIntosh system and its amazing!

Scotty, I don't think the intention/purpose makes a difference. If they look good, they look good. If they don't, they don't.

Case and point: probably THE MOST FUNCTIONAL gauge I've ever seen is that Defi sports cluster. It also takes the cake for THE ugliest cluster in history, hands down. Ppl love it cuz it's functional, that's all.

On the flipside, ppl run tons of parts that look nice which may not be functional, and ppl on the forum LOVE it. Anyone polish a pipe here or there lately?

So WHY Wael did it is inconsequential IMHO. I just get pissed when "elders" start joaning on "younger" guys for trying to imitate those they admire. There's NOTHING wrong w/ that. What's wrong w/ trying to look like an amazing JGTC or D1 car? Better than trying to look like a riced out F&F car, dontcha think? So how it's cool w/ Wael's car, but stupid and pointless on the car of the gentleman who started this thread is beyond me.

~Ramy

PS: I agree, I hope you're not doing this to stock headlights.

I think it looks good, but I'm into the Japanese trends.

But then again I also think the FD looks really cool with its headlights up, so I don't know if I'd do it. But if it were an FC or 240SX or something, I probably would.

Let people like what they like.
