Angry how long does the burping-process take?

hello !

i got a question:
i had to take out approx. 2 liters of coolant because i needed more anti freeze. that was way back. i dind't drive my 7 often since that, approx 300 miles, but the water in my filler neck goes always down 2-3 inches. i fill it up to the max, drive it normaly, let it cool down.....and again the level is 2-3 inch lower.

out of curiousity, i did the champagne bubble test. i took of the cap on the filler neck, two or three big single bubbles, no more...
the waterlevel raised of course, and a some water poured on the ground, not much though. i shut the car off, let it cool down, next day i check the level, it's full to the top, as it should be

then i took the car for a drive, 30 miles or so. shut it off. today i check the level, and again´~2 inches are missing. wtf? is that normal? i got no experience, but i was reading severall "burp-thread" and it seems that it normally does not take that long.

i'm confused
any ideas, suggestions, experience?

Thanks,

Chris

double check your coolant hoses. i had the same problem and it just turned out to be a loose hose on the ast which was letting air into the system. i thought
my new streetport was sipping coolant with 3k on it!

I know a guy that can say the whole alphabet during the burping process. I can't do it that long, however.

Okay, enough bad jokes...

I think some drop in the level is normal. As long as it is high enough that the buzzer doesn't go off, you are probably fine. I know that mine is always a few inches lower than "totally full" when I check it. If you have an AST that is lower than the filler neck, it certainly isn't going to fill above the level of the vent tube on the AST neck.

Did you remove the throttle body coolant line before refilling? After I refilled my coolant, I reconnected the coolant line. Then I warmed the car up and backed it onto a 15 degree incline and the buzzer went off. I turned the car off and refilled the coolant. The buzzer has not turned on since then.

unfortunatly, back then i didnt know about the throttle body coolant trick. so i just refilled like the average joe
i'll check the ast line one more time, but it seemed ok, allthough i must admit it was just a quick visual test.
just had to ask coz im paranoid when something doesn't work as it should

Yeah I think disconnecting the throttle body and squeezing the radiator hoses is the trick to burping the system well. Just be sure to recconect the throttle body hose because that coolant really shoots out of there if you don't LOL.

I flip the release on the the AST while massaging the radiator hoses to burp the system, seems to work well for me.
