F*&! Koyo And RX7Fashion CAI SUCK!

Well, I just spent 5 hours trying to make those two damn things work! NO JOY!

One is the clearance in thr front. It will slightly pinch the radiator hose on the right front and not clear the plastic guard of the wires that run on the left front. DAMMIT!

I think I am going to have to have Don Marvel try it. Maybe even take the radiator out again and see if I can get it to sit lower (maybe by shaving those rubber stoppers on the bottom.

Eric...I needed your muscle man!

Any suggestions for fitment is REALLY APPRECIATED!

Talk to Cavell here on the forum ... he installed his Koyo with no real problems. He would be more than happy to give you some pointers.

I think you might have to turn a bracket upside down to make it work. I could be wrong

Actually, I left the brackets out just so it would sit lower, but shaving the rubber stoppers might let it sit more down...does that make any sense??

I since have had the brackets machined and was waiting for a reason to remount them...

dang it!

my muscle? ha!

Now when we did the Koyo installl on Cavell's car we had to trim the fan suurind to get everything to fit back in place, and flip the front right radiator mounting bracket around to get the radiator to sit lower...

What rubber stoppers are you talking about?

The Koyo is thicker then stock or Fluidyne and alot of people have this problem with cai boxes. Search the 3rd gen forum cause I know someone has made it work.

yup,

GSRsol...I did do a search. Just little snippets here and there.

And I know that Eric helped install the koyo for cavellm right?

I think my radiator is sitting lower since I left the brakcets out. Plus I didn't have to shave the fan shroud.

But if you can imagine...when you but the RX7Fashion airbox in, the right side hits the top of the radiator tubing and actually pinches it alittle. Someone "made it work" by cutting another hole into the aluminum airbox to let it fit. Otherwise there isn't much info that I could find on the search. I need to PM Zerobanger I think got it to work.

Eric, the rubber stoppers that you take off of the stock radiator and put on the koyo on the bottom??!?! they fit in the guide holes on the bottom, I think there are 2 or 3 of them...

Oh and Eric,

if you ever want to lend your garage services again I would be more than happy.

I was trying to do this install in the parking garage, with no lights, and my kmart bluelight special tool box from tonka toys

ps. anyone ever put in a downpipe?

Do you go to the meets? I've got a koyo in mine w/ a Apex'i FMIC if you need to look at it... more specifically I'm up in lewisville if you can find a way up here. I put the radiator in but not the FMIC... the brackets were a little short so I had to come up w/ somthing to make them work which all and all was basically some metal w/ holes in it. I don't know the best way to discribe it you will just have to look. and also I had to cut the fan shrouds with some hedge trimmers! it works.

Streetking,

thanks for the link...I actually looked at that before I did the radiator install...it's just still too high. The only thing I can think of is getting to the radiator from below and bending the brackets some more.

Unlike that guy I actually didn't have ANY problems with the AC condensor and I didn't have to shave anything and everything closes and the fans work...

But with the addition of the CAI, specifically the rx7fashion one...fitting, the CAI hits the inlet tube on the top left of the radiator. If you look on your car wonder1and I think you can see the stepoff on the far left of the frame of the car where the mounting brackets of the old airbox use to be and that is LOWER than the inlet pipe

That's the rub!

Wonderland, I have gone to some meets. Some nights I can't go and plus the car needs some "tuning" up before cruising with you guys to be safe. i am getting the brakes redone tomorrow by Don and maybe the downpipe and now AIRBOX????

I also need new tires and an alignment in the worse kind of way....

just ask rx7gsl....i think he got motion sick!

Hey Bob,

I'll help with your downpipe as long as it isn't an m2....

You said you lived off 75 S of 635, right? We can see if we installed the Koyo the same on my car.

Cavell,

I'm actually WAY downtown, off of lemmon. You guys were close to me (2-3 exits) when you were at the sake bar.....

And I need tools and equipment...my weak *** toolbox just doesn't cut it....

I think the dp should be easy. I had a rebuild before and the turbos rebuilt so those studs shouldn't be too tight...

kinda like the airbox should be a simple install

dammit!

there was that one bracket we "slightly" bent to lower the ac condensor- kinda fun telling someone to look away from their car for a second while you perform a field modification to thier car.

cavell musta thought we were about crazy....

My dp, which was advertised as an m2, was a pain in the ***. The hardest part was lining up the dp to put all 4 studs back in. Because you're going to need to remove the studs, the way it's shaped you can't just slip it over. Once I got that done it's a piece of cake.

I did mine w/ the tools I've got at my house, so if you'd wanna bring your car on over, you're more than welcome to. And I've got a garage too.

Lemmon's not too far. Other than havin your airbox off, your car is pretty much put together tho, right?

Definately. I'm just off Marsh and LBJ. In case it takes a little bit, either Sat. or Sun. would be good. I'm sure I could pry myself out of bed early one of those days...

Damn!

you guys are GREAT! All these offers for help and I haven't even offered beer or the dancing girls yet!!!

Anyways,

Cavellm, from what I read about the M2...you shouldn't have to back the bolts off and should be able to slip it on....SHOULD!!! LOL...I don't believe that anymore.

Ryker, would love to see your car too and shoot the ****! Thanks for the garage offer.

Well, I went to Don's today and no one was available...but I did get to watch them pull a 3rd gen engine out in no time at all and then crack that puppy open to see blow apex seals and a DEEPLY grooved rotor housing!!!! ewwwwwwwwwwwww!!!

So instead I am going to bring the car back tomorrow after work (after 5p) and we will do the brakes, dp, and that damn CAI (cold air box...thanks rx7gslse) the Marvelspeed guys seemed to know what was up and had some tricks to get the two to work.

Not only that the rx7fashion guys have been sending me emails about how to get the two to work too!!! How great is that!!!! basicially he suggested cutting a tab back a 1/2" in the engine compartment that is a "triangular looking thing"

PS...Brentis, I left the top pipe on and its PURTY!!! I think I can hear the turbos spool up easier!! or else I have a turbo leak

I left the bottom one off. Supposedly in my research and from word of mouth from Radical Rotary Advantgard....it is a royal PITA to get on because the tolerances are too tight....
