For the sake of this thread I am going to assume that you are going to Germany (or some other place with no speed limits and high quality roads).

I can tell you that even in stock form the car can do what you want it to. But, preferably you have an aftermarket ECU so you can monitor the temperatures closely. Also, in this case it is better to have the automatic (please hold your flames everyone, I'll explain)

Even though the 5-spd has a higher top end (due to engine reving higher) The auto is better at doing high speed runs because it has the gears to do it.

5spd - 130 mph - stock wheels/diff - 5180 RPM
4spd - 130 mph - Stock wheels/diff - 4756 RPM

This will keep the car cooler and also will net better gas mileage, which is very important because if you go too fast it may actually cost you time because you will have to keep stopping to re-fill the gas tank. If you happen to be participating in a long distance race event (possibly in Dubai?) I'd strip the car of the spoiler, side-view mirrors, antenna, etc and get a bigger fuel cell. Also, if you are racing, it is good to have some support cars out there with your fuel ready to go. Pump stations really kill your time on a long distance run.

I wondered if someone might suggest that. LOL

I can assure you that its not the case. I could even show you my collection of tickets to make the point.

I'm not really that interested in going super fast. More curious than anything. I don't have a death wish any more than the rest of us. I think that it is interesting that almost everyone here has taken it up close to the limits once, but would probably never do it again.

I do have a long-distance fiancee, and it is very tempting to make the trip in two hours instead of three.

But, it isn't worth it if you end up not making it there at all.

If you are running these speeds, make sure you have the right tires. If one lets go, you have bigger problems then a rebuild.

I would never drive for a long time at the kind of speeds that have been mentioned on this thread.

If it were an emergency or something, I might think about 100-120, but that's only if I felt safe doing it?

my self reeling in my friends WRX that i gave a jump to gave him a ten car lead from a roll and passed him at 170, will i do it again? not until i get wider tires and my ***** grow bigger car was stable but my heart was pounding and i was shaking when i got out. you would be amazed how slow a car going 65-70 looks when your going 100MPH faster.

Even if he was a fed, he couldnt do anything to us. lol

OP is not a FED. he is just a noob asking a noob question. I think the FED has more important things to do than to search forums for speeders.

158 on a long run with my stock engine.
I've not done the same run with my new engine that has about 50 more hp, my guess is I'd hit mid 160s.
Those speeds....even in a car like this, are NOT to be trifled with or taken lightly. I don't know about the rest of you guys other than what you have shared in this thread, but my car is pfftt...nothing to it to about 140. Stable, feels good...the world is just going by quicker.
Above that....let's just say that from 140 to 150 I was VERY aware of the speed. And when I held the pedal to the floor and ran ~158 for a couple of miles, it made my ***** tingle. The car was noticeably lighter, dartier. Small road imperfections just HAMMERED up thru the suspension. I knew I was in an 'older' car, for sure. I've a friend with a '69 'Vette, with the 435 hp 427, 4 speed car. The 'Vette was a hoot at 135, damned near on the limit of control, bouncing and porpoising...it was crazy!
My FD wasn't like this but...it was not like being in a new Mercedes that just laughs at such speeds, either.

I went 140 and it was an uncomfortable feeling i can`t see how you guys can say 170 to 190, that's just not safe in the streets.

Some people on this forum have access to GREAT open roads. They arent unlucky like us where we have the worst roads ever put on this country.

That being said, theres a good stretch on the turnpike that runs parallel to newark airport which is the sweet spot for a good top speed pull. No shoulders or hiding spots for cops too which is nice lol

A nice 4 lane straight that runs about 2-3 miles.

Yeah, I live in KANSAS...lol! The road I use for hell-runs is an 8 mile long two-lane that sees about 5 cars on it a DAY. Perfectly flat, all farm land around it. Only thing to worry about are cops and deer.

I would be dumping a load in my drawers at that point!!

I remember years ago running down the interstate with my V8 buddy in the passenger seat. I was driving my 83 with a Pettit engine & Cartech turbo under the hood. I had the thing pegged on the speedo. He said "Wow! This thing really runs good!" I had more to go but my sweaty palms & shaking legs wouldn`t let me do it. Haven`t been that fast since. Have a new motor in the 94 but haven`t REALLY ran it past 130 yet. It handles much better aerodynamically than the 83 ever did though. I would be more comfortable with a high speed run in it than a first gen car. Seems like everytime I get over a 100, all these thoughts of a blowout come to mind. If that happened.........

I have a buddy with a 2004 mustang GT and he took me for a spin, he went maybe 120MPH and that freaking thing felt like it was going to fall in peaces. I am so disappointed in American car craftsman ship.even with the new camaro and the new mustang the interior is so bad.

After doing that kind of speed, 55 MPH would make you feel like you could get out of the car & crawl faster down the road! I always hated the city speed limits when I was interstate traveling. Would be running 80 or more between towns then come up on a city limit with the infamous 55 MPH speed sign. Slowing down made me feel like I was coming out of warp drive!
