The fastest I've sustained speed was 120-130 for an hour. I drove from upland CA to Chula vista in 1:10 (its about 145 miles). Now that I think back I have no idea how a CHP didn't catch me, given that I did that during daylight hours.

The car felt great the whole way.

The fastest I've gone is 150+.

True True.

But drive through Montana or somewhere similar some time, and you'll understand a little bit more what I'm talking about. Especially at night.

When you can drive for 15 mins and not see another car, it becomes really hard to keep it under 75. You start thinking about shaving 20 or 30 minutes off of your trip time.

140+ stock FD...

I've got to wonder what kind of fuzzy things scurry across the road at night in Montana?

The force of nature prevails...

I would try to keep an eye on oil/water temps while maintaining high rpms for a long time.

Disclaimer: I was punished accordingly

140 in the FD... while running away from the cops. yes i was caught. Would have gotten away if i noticed the off ramp was closed. I've grown up a little bit. ;-) was not arrested, but learned my lesson.

160 in a TII. passenger

i think i know what road you are talking about. Absolutely no place for cops too hide and just straight for about 120miles or so right ? my buddy and i did 175 in his vette on that road.

on topic did 170 in the FD a few years back or at least thats what was reading on the speedo.

165 (according to the speedo) on a straight, recently-repaved country road with no cross streets or driveways. The FD felt real stable, but when the string of electrical poles turned into a big brown blur, I bitched out. Now that I got that out of my system, I highly doubt I'll ever do it again.

I've made several 120mph+ pulls in my LS1 RX7 without any issues. Probably hit just a little over 130ish.

I was sticking 2 FD fingers up to a Supra driver whilst racing (in front) up the M2 motorway...the speedo read 165 mph and the supra was long gone so I slowed down.

It's ok because it was 3am and the only other car was...I can't remember, something in the slow lane, I went past it so fast! cool. The FD felt solid up to 160mph but the steering wheel vibrated a little after 160.

This was my thought. Especially at night. I just remember always heading up the pass to my condo in CO and being constantly being surprised by a huge *** bull elk chilling in the middle of the road.... scarry....

Personally I have only had the FD to ~140ish. I don't really remember. I tried to quit driving like that on the street. Now BEFORE I got smarter I have done 160+ on my RC51 and constantly hit 140+ on my gixxer.

140 at the end of 4th gear, chasing a Porsche Turbo. Too much traffic around here.

on that note, what does the calculation for typical tire size and 5th gear at 8-9k rpm get us?

I did 165 ish according to the speedo in the desert between AZ and CA, it was pretty dumb, and I don't want to do it again cause there were a lot of trucks out there.

As Iīm living in germany you will sure believe me:
170mph - often
180mph - once

Car always feels very stable.
But driving fast isnīt really something special (for a german - I drove 201mph in a Audi A4 with 570hp).
driving fast in corners is much more fun! ;-)

to my pre posters:

Iīve hit the 180mph @ approx- 7500rpm.
So there arenīt plenty of rpms left to get much faster..
I have also 255 / 40 / 17 rear tires, stock diff , stock transmission...
So I donīt really believe that you can drive > 200mph with a FD (with stock diff etc.) unless you are reving way >8000rpm
In terms of power, even with my stock twins, the car felt still strong and I think >190mph are doable with around 350whp!

DAMN!!!....
seems my speedo isnīt showing the real deal!!! :-)

Calculated some numbres:

on 255 / 40 / 17
with stock transmission (0.719 in fifth gear) & stock manual differential (4.100), youīll go: (calculated, so in theory)

rpm: mph:

6000 | 151.57

6500 | 164.20

7000 | 176.83

7500 | 189.46

8000 | 202.09

Sorry @ spanks13... seems that I was wrong...
+ my Rx-7 FD top speed now updated:

189mph

OP is a FED hes going to impound all our cars, o well LOL

my self reeling in my friends WRX that i gave a jump to gave him a ten car lead from a roll and passed him at 170, will i do it again? not until i get wider tires and my ***** grow bigger car was stable but my heart was pounding and i was shaking when i got out. you would be amazed how slow a car going 65-70 looks when your going 100MPH faster.
