Question how far......

.... can i go before im no longer considered stock? my resident car guru friend insists that im basically still stock with street-port (mild), full 3" exhaust (no cat), ECU, intake, ACT street/strip, ported wastegate running 11ibs of boost....

part of me agrees with him, but then again im not sure.

he also has a very tough time believing that rx-7s take exceptionally well to the right mods.... i.e. producing respectable numbers and times w/o having extensive modifications....

so, thoughts, answers, flames.... looking for input here

p.s... he's a mustang freak (specifically the cobra) and he cant believe anthony's times (11sec @122) with the listed mods......

Well, as soon as you do ANYTHING to a car, it's not stock. But, the RX-7 can go VERY far with just bolt-ons - no major engine work. Full exhaust, intake, intercooler, fuel computer, and a boost controller and you can make well into the 300's. It's been done time and again. The stock twins have a lot of potential.

you are not considered stock.. when it comes to people who do not know the rotary engine.. many things to them is unbelievable.

ex: flames shooting out exhaust with just a midpipe, having only 2 cyl, ect. ect.

i figured as much... but i just wasnt really sure. he's definately a car guy... he knows the ins and outs of just about everything car related... which could explain his disbelief of the rotary's potential.... he's so conditioned in the piston-powered world he cant see past a camshaft...

alot of ppl i come across have trouble believing me when i tell them that i figure myself to be in the 250 to 260whp range with just what they see to be mere bolt-ons. id like to take it to a dyno and see what the actual numbers are so im not just guessin. id also hate to be over or underestimating the car.... its a healthy engine (recent rebuild by R&R rotary) and healthy turbos (also by R&R).... what do you think im making?

you = not stock
stock = no mods or just very basic mods - a ported engine is def. not stock lol :P

I agree though a lot of people have a hard time believing the power the 7 can make but then again a lot of people don't even know we dont have cams and cylinders :P
