Question How to: Door Hard to Close

Both my doors are getting progressively worst to close. Just other day I got into a mates FD and his door felt very light and as they were floating. My ones feel very heavy.

Basically everytime I close the door I'd have to slam it very hard for it to close. If not it will close but I'd have to give it an extra push with my backside to get it to close. I find that when I lift the door slighty as I close it, it does help so I'm guessing it has something to do with the hinges sagging?

I do have a c-west kit on it but no the body kit clears it so I'm certain it has nothing to do with this. Even before I had the kit the door was doing this.

I've had a look at the door hinge but wouldn't know where to begin. Maybe some washers to raise it abit?

The slide hinges on my doors were very dry (my Acura ones are greased) and the doors don't have that float feeling when opening and closing. I lubed them up with some really slick non-smelling bicycle bearing grease I had in my garage and it helped them quite a bit..still not quite as smooth/easy as my Acura though. I just applied the grease to the hinges and opened and closed the doors many times, then re-applied. Door adjustment stuff starts on page S-8 in the body sections shop manual I believe.

hahahahahhah I have to laugh at this!!!!!!! seems that a lot of people, including me, have this problem....

when coming to creasing it, you need a grease not a lube, white lithium or something close to that. Actually there are better ones than that, but the type escapes me.

This annoys the hell out of me, everytime I get out I have to slam it and half the time not ALL THE FRICKEN WAY!!!!!!!!

so I'm glad to know I'm not alone...

I'll play with it tomorrow and see if I come up with anything. I think it has to do with the distance between the latch and the door hook

Everytime I slam the door hard I think it hurts me a little inside but I'm just sick of closing it gently then having to give her an extra nudge to get it in. I'm sure thats how the dent on my drivers door came about lol

yea those tiny dents that accumulated are surely 0% from bumping the door closed. gotta do it with the hand on the door handle. stiff arm that bitch. hence my need for paintless dent repair

Works for me too on many older cars that I've had. I've used Silicon Spray Lubricant as well as WD40 but they both wear out quicker than other lubricant.s

This has nothing to do with greasing hinges or the driver's door.

Try this experiment: Close your hatch last. Both doors will close easily with the hatch open, but with them closed, the hatch will take an extra hard shove to close.

Now try this experiment: Close the passenger door last. The hatch and driver's door will close easily with the passenger's door open, but now the passenger's door will take an extra hard shove to close.

Why? The interior is air-tight, and the internal vents don't release pressure quickly enough to allow the last open door (or hatch) to close easily. My '95 is still basically brand new (~13,000 miles) and it has always done this. Get used to it.

Mazda made a change to the door seals for '94 IIRC to make closing the door easier.

To make the best out of a bad situation wipe all your door seals with a wet towel , clean them very well. After they have dried use a little Armor All and wipe all the seals down. Clean and lube the door hinges.

Missed seeing this thread for some reason until now. Surprised it took until the 18th post for someone knowledgeable to chime in on the real cause.

^ That is somewhat true and why BMW automatically and partially rolls dow the window about an inch. I can't remember if Mercedes does this as well. In my case it is the rubber seal on the door that has a break or split and no longer fits tightly.

I can't believe there is a thread here on how to close your door. Try using some common sense. Maybe I should start a thread about how to adjust your rear view mirror!!! Of course, it would probably have to be a full write up with pictures

This might lead to a "How to enter a low rx7 properly" thread. We all know it's a pain to get in.

Normally i would agree with u..

but unfortunately this isn't the case for my car...

i have the same problem as others..

Drivers door needs a beating to close...

even with the windows all the way down.. doesn't make a diff...

passenger and hatch close much easier...

I figured it was something with the latching mechanism... or the actual metal loop on the frame needed adjustment to bring it "out" toward the door more...
