How does the engine bay look?

Possible FD purchase...what do you spot that might be a problem aside from the AST?
Is that the stock intercooler? And the piece in front of it, is that stock as well (this looks like a PFS piece to me)? Stock radiator? Anything else look like it might be a problem?

thanks

Dave

I haven't personally owner a stock FD when I started, but looks pretty good. Replace AST, relocate battery and maybe swap intercoolers. Any other details about the car?

Everything looks bone stock except for the intakes. Looks clean on the surface.

Looks pretty clean to me, look to be stock everything except intake. The IC is stock, he just has something there to block the opening in the duct that was left open by removing the stock intake component.

Just do your research. I believe there is a buying guide. Check boost patterns, check to see if the recalls got done., compression obviously. 70k for a regular internal combustion is awesome but personally on a rotary unless it's brand new or the person has 4 other rotaries I would go in under the premise that a season or 2 after purchase a rebuild would be in order. Now if you are like me and decide to go single or a nice TT build. Rebuilding the engine when it's worn is better then when it's blown. Goodluck, post more pics.

Those intakes are going to be ingesting some super hot air from the radiator.... best to get a stock airbox and to the cheap bastard mod, or make an airbox from scratch for those intakes.

As mentioned earlier, check the buyers guide tho

^I'm with him on those "HOT AIR" Intakes. At a minimum, a sheet of aluminum as a divider can block the radiator's hot air from the air filters.

This is what I did. It is not pretty, but it is effective.

And it's missing the battery cover.

That's a Greddy intake, one of the nicer intakes out there. I would put a set of K&N cones on those pipes to replace the foam filters for better filtering.

Everything else looks stock and clean. Looks like a nice car that hasn't been overly tampered with.

All the "hot air, you need airbox" comments, don't sweat that too hard. A good intercooler will do far better of a job than an airbox. That's a great intake on there.

What's the white wire over by the battery for? That isn't stock.

I would also suggest you ditch the hot air intake on an otherwise stock car. Hotter air into the turbos/intercooler = hotter air out.

No. Sweat it.

Hotter air is less dense.

Less dense air being fed to the turbochargers' compressors means they're going to have to work harder to deliver the required air volume.

The harder they have to work, the more heat they're going to add to the charge air.

So....we're starting with hotter air to begin with, and the turbos are now adding MORE heat than they otherwise would because they've been fed hotter, less dense air. But that's OK, the intercooler will take care of it!

Nope. Sadly, intercoolers aren't made of magic. They can't remove infinite amounts of heat. Once the intercooler hits the limit at which it can no longer remove any more heat from the charge air, any additional heat is going to be sent directly to the engine, reducing power and increasing the chances for detonation. No bueno.

Maybe I'm missing something, but I don't see a blow-off valve in this set up. The stock BAC is not visible and the intake elbow appears to be stock. Can someone "Find ELMO?"

Right up front, in front of the I/C on the intake pipe.

the engine looks pretty and stock, besides the greedy intake. I'm not sure, where you're located, but if you're in the San Jose area, I can help you check it out.

Yeah I would be getting rid of those intakes. They are not going to do you any favors.
Stock airbox pulls cold air from a better location than those things do. They are sucking in nasty hot engine bay air. The intercooler is not a magic fix all for complacency.

Hot air, combined with a useless intercooler and slow responding intake temp sensor is asking for problems. I would get a decent intercooler and water injection. Otherwise the engine bay looks pretty clean.

I meant in the OP's pic, not project 88's. On further review, it must be feeding under the top intake and into the lower intake (filter).
