It's pretty much self-explanitory.. Disconnect the hose that goes from the bov to the air box/intake...

Sorry I don't have a write up on it.

yea jsut disconect it from the air box that short little 2 inch hose take it off. ps bov is the brown thing with the red sticker on it. or at least thats what mine is. then go to ace hardware and get a rubber stopper, like the ones on the end of old lady canes and cap the hole to the airbox, hope this helps, scott

You don't need to get a stopper. Just use a clear plastic cap from a 16oz bottle of arrowhead water. It slips over nice and tight.

Hey Guys,

I went to try out this mod today but noticed that my setup was not as shown in the picture. The "brown thing with the red sticker" is attached to the upper of the two vacuum hoses coming from the air box. There was a "black thing" (that looks just like the brown thing) attached to the lower/shorter hose. Is my setup screwed?? I searched/read other posts regarding this mod and it seems that everyone else has the brown thing on the lower/shorter hose. Also I noticed that nobody mentioned anything about a "black thing". Should I swap the two thingies before proceeding with the mod?? Please advise! Thanks.

I don't think it matters, both hoses are going to the same destination.

You can thing your thingys the way the things are thingied up on the thing. Your thingys don't have to match anyone else's things. Just make sure your brown thingy is the correct brown thingy-the brown thingy closer to your airbox thingy.

Oh-get a FSM thingy too. Good read, as well as lots of diagrams of how the thingys are laid out in that manual thingy.

BTW-my BOV thingy was on the upper hose too.

Cool!! Thanks for the input! Throw in a couple more thingies and it'll be way too technical for me.

hmmm...I thought that they were BOTH BOV's...one for primary, one for secondary. I just took Both of them off and everything's fine and dandy

The second one is the charge relief valve. It vents some boost that the secondary turbo creates during pre-spooling.

How loud and does it affect MAF readings

Hey , I wanna do this mod but first I wanna know if it even makes it sound like aftermarket BOVs. Plus, will it do anything in terms of MAF or VAF ( dont know what the RX has) readings? Obviously a bit less air will be going into the intake. Probably shouldnt matter...but I really wanna know if it is 100 percent safe. Why dont they just have it disconnected stock? Probably cuz it can get dirt and stuff in the BOV.

the BOV comes off the center of the Y pipe the CRV is connected near the second turbo - Either one can be plumed to either nipple on the air box (both nipples open into the same place) I put my BOV on the Upper airbox nipple because when it is on the lower one it tends to rub against the AC piping and wear a hole in it.

chachidu:

They have them vent into the airbox because they are noisy otherwise.

Just be certain to cover the nipples on the airbox as they are on the CLEAN side of the filter otherwise it is safe to run them both (the BOV & CRV) open, as they only BLOW and never SUCK ;-)

The mod vents all boost into the atmosphere. Basically, say "Puuuusshhhhhh," but exagerate the "uusshhhhh" at the end, and thats what the stock bov and crv valves sound like. Only difference from aftermarket bov and stock ones are the sounds. aftermarket ones have more restriction to make the unique sounds. But if i were to compare, id say the stock bov sounds similar to the Apex'i

So this mod sounds like the stock BOV? That's my understanding of this. I mean taking the vacuum hoses off will sound the same or just louder? Is this mod even comparable to a low-end or quieter BOV sound?

Daemon. . . . the mod we are talking about IS the stock bov. . . .the person just wanted to know how to vent it to the atmosphere. If you take the vacuum hoses, then you won't have boost. we are talking about removing the hoses that lead the stock bov to the airbox, making it, in essence, a silencer.

Well, I've been driving around for three days now after doing this mod and I like it. But the only thing is that when I'm gentle on the throttle and easing it up to ~3000RPM I can hear the BOV purging air continuously, as if there was a leak. When I'm heavy on the throttle it doesn't sound until I let off the trottle or when the RPMs hit around 4000-4500 at which point it'll purge. Did any of you notice this too after doing this mod?

Yep, mine does it too. It'll just vent any boost through the BOV until you need it. Like, if you're in those RPMs and punch it, that noise will go away and you'll boost! Nothin to worry about.

RedRd1 - I know this...lol Obviously you need the vacuum lines in! And, how is this mod THE stock BOV? The stock BOV comes on the car and isn't even a BOV per-say...that's why I was asking. As far as I know this mod is just venting it to air. Maybe you mis-understood me. I just really wanted to know more about it and Hyperite and Knifeboy have just done so...Thanks anyway...
