its really simple man..
just unscrew the three screws under the steering column. take bottom piece off, then top piece. look for the bigest wireing harness you see, unplug it. connect your harness in line with it. the timer harness acts like a t fitting, and the other wires just go to the timer, where ever you place it. once you get the column plastics apart, its really obvious.

hey, I just installed mine....I have a type O, but Im sure its the same procedure. U have to take off the bottom panel that has the "crotch" vent. I couldnt get mine all the way off, so I just worked around it. The steering column panels (2) also have to come off. By removing three screws from the under part of the steering column panels, they should then pop apart. there will be a plug on the left side, that looks identical to the wiring harness. Unplug, plug the wiring harness in, and re plug stock one. Run gray wire with orange spots to the parking brake feed, which is (I think) a green wire that has a spring trigger on it. Just lift up on the shifter assembly and it should comeout...mine is manual, and Im not sure if you need to unscrew anything if its automatic...t-tap the gray wire, then run it along the side driver gas pedal kick panel, or through the back of the center then find a ground and ground the proper ground wire...Mine was red. Thats all it took for my type O, I believe that there is more to it for the Type-1. Im not sure where those wires go, but Im sure u can find something or someone that will help you with that wire.

the hardest part is getting that harness to fit. It took me about an hour and 3 bloody knuckles to finally do it! Just keep at it and try not to get mad and it will eventually fit. Goodluck man!

did any of you follow robinette's procedure for getting 02 sensor readings, and bypassing the alarm etc. I tried it but without success. Any help?

If you have the harness, do you need to worry about all of Steve's re-wiring?
Any copies in English of intallation instructions from HKS?

from the sounds of Stevey's explanation, the harness for the turbo timer goes inline with the stock harness plugs... kinda like this:

stock harness-turbo timer-stock harness

would an HKS timer harness work equally well with other turbo timers, so could avoid custom wiring?

Or is the harness unique to HKS timers?

OK, HKS timer instructions with pictures are in Japanese, the translated words without pictures are a little indefinite.
And on the Ebay special, the black wire is taped to the grey one, is the ground really needed, then? And the brown one is supposed to go to some unspecified 5v digital tach signal somewhere...any helpful clues?
And can somewonderful clarify how to get access to the hand brake wire from the center console?

ok guys. here it is. JimmyJimbo is right. The harness acts like a pre wired stock harness. all the taps that would normally be necessary (custom wire job), are done for you; hence, a wiring harness. So, there is a female and male side to the harness. I am pretty sure that each harness is brand dependent in other words, the HKS one requires an HKS harness, the apex'i one requires an apex'i one, and so on. the HKS one specifically speaking from the one that I had, sandwiches itself (so to speak). Im sure most of the other ones are similar. Getting access to the parking brake wire was a matter of pulling up on the console (plastic piece holding shifter) and *pop*. clips hold that sucker in place and after having it off, you should be able to see a green wire running to the parking brake. It may not be easy to see, but it should be there. Hook that up along with what I mentioned earlier, and voila. As far as those other signal wires, I can't remember how I did it. Its been a long while, and seeing that old post kinda re-booted the memory, but not all the way. Hope this helps.

Popped off the console cover when working on the radio; it came off suprisingly easy. However, seeing wiring for the brake was down in the cables and connectors and dirt -- not obvious. This will take another good hard look for the brake wire and maybe adding a slip joint. Still no clue on the tach wire; will look in a manual (read the book, s_____) for info I guess.
