Question How can I make an AT stronger

I have an automatic transmission in a 93 touring. Everyone says do a trany conversion to Manual. Which is cool and all, but I really don't have the funds right now to buy a new tranny and new rear housing for manual hookup, upgraded clutch, a new ecu and all the other little parts. I know how to drive manual all my previous cars were manual. I just found this Rx7 at a rediculous price.

Well my question really is, in order to get my automatic to handle higher HP rating what would be required to be upgraded or replaced in the Tranny?

Has anyone upgraded their automatic? How much did you spend? What did you upgrade? Are you glad you upgraded rather than switching to Manual?

Please help all.......I really want this car to be a perfect daily driver with somewhat limited funds.

Change your gearing. You have 3.90 you can change to 4.10 and get more low end power.

You don't really need a torque converter unless you're making a lot of H.P I have a friend who was able to get his AT doing 11.9's in the 1/4 mile w/ stock turbos. He did have torque converter issues but he was also making 400+HP w/ 100 shot of Nos!

Have you done your reliability mods?

and just where are you suppose to get "gears, torque converter, shift kit" for a MPV/929/Rx-7 Auto tranny?

Best thing would be to find a used 4.10 on line somewhere. Usually if someone upgrades to a 4.30 they'll have the stock 4.10 lying around. If you try to buy a new one they're more expensive than the 4.30's I would suggest just going straight up to 4.30 but I've never seen anyone do that so I don't know what the results would be.
