hood latch stuck!!!

I've searched and no one has ever posted a situation like mine.

My latch is stuck on the closed position. I can tug on the lever as much as I want but it just won't pop. I know my cable is fine cause I can feel resistance, I just can't get it passed the point where it releases.

Someone please post and tell me this happened to them. I don't want to pry my hood open with a screwdriver like other people have done

If you've still got tension on the cable, have someone push down on the hood (Carefully!) over the latch while you pull the lever. Better yet, get them to pull the lever while you mess with your own hood. If you have a fiberglass hood then it's not such a big deal who does what.

The pressure should relieve the latch while you pop it open. You may need to adjust your hood bumpers to put more pressure (or less) on the hood so that it will pop when you pull the hood release.

Just because you feel resistance doesn't necessarily mean that it is still attached.

This has happened to many people. You can read about my experience in the link below. It was a bit of a pain in the ***, but I managed to do it without damaging the hood.

I found that my gf's eclipse wouldn't open. Similar case - I could sort of reach into the bumper but not quite enough to get to the mechanism. Cable was fine, but I felt a lot of resistance when I pulled on the lever.

We tried opening it a couple different times (driving in between) and finally it opened. That's when I found a twig in there and removed it. It was intermittently getting the way of the latch mechanism.

Oh my god!! I finally got it to open. For future reference, I will tie my hood latch cable further from the header It was a little too close to my header and the heat melted part of a side. When the engine cooled, I guess the plastic shielding kept the cable from moving. I thought about this while the hood was still stuck and decided to take it out on a ride to warm the plastic back up. About 10min of driving did the trick. Now I have to let it cool down so I can fix the plastic. Funny thing is now it won't shut

I was wondering about that...

The cable probably froze in the "open" position this time.

Yeah, I'm gonna wait for the engine to cool down a bit before I get back in there. I'm suprised I actually drove the car around with the hood locked closed like that. I'm very affraid of engine fires

If it's damaged, I would just replace it before it gets stuck again. You'll regret it when you're on the side of the road in the middle of no-where, and you can't pop your hood by yourself. It only costs ~$20 from Malloy Mazda.

nevermind, I bought one from a local mazda dealer. It was only $35. I would think something like this from mazda would be something close to $100

OK stupid question maybe but it is one of my specialist subjects lol my bumper is currently sitting above my bonnet ATM having just refitted it which kinda means prying it open is a bit of a non event but there's still a chance i can get coat hanger in there & catch onto sumin (erm yes suffice to say my cable appears to of snapped). So the quick stupid question is (incase it's a differnt side to the descriptions from you fine US folks) which bit am i looking to hook & in which direction should i be pulling it? (photo from when my bumper was off c/o crash so all not lined up correctly but is now just dead from a cabling point of view:
