Holding revs at any accelerator position

Hi there, I took my efini 1994 through a preliminary vehilce inpsetion in Perth, Western Australia. All the points they made (I wasnt there for the inspection) were fair and reasonable including such things as installing an engine imobiliser, removing the BOV, and lowering the exhaust from the rear bumper.

The one thing that the guy wrote down (my father described him as a little hitler) was that `the revs should remain stable at any throttle position.` My ol man said this guy at the centre spent 3 hours muking about with the car, driving it around and revving it heavily. I wonder if this guy has a valid point about the revs. I havent had any issues driving it for the last year, and havent noticed anything to suggest the engine doesnt hold the revs.

Anyway... I have other alterations to make on the car befoe the next inspection to get the car licensed. the car is a single turbo conversion from Japan. I recently had the engine rebuilt and fully tuned by a company over here. My fear is that in my home town, they wont pass the vehicle and i will be stuck with something unregisterable, as there is nobody with the technical knowhow to solve the issue.

Does anyone have any adivce on the issue?

take it somewhere else. I know someone who has successfully complianced an FD in perth - I can ask them if you like.

btw, as a fellow kobe FD owner - who did you get to do the work on your car?

ya, thats bullshit. if you hold it at half throttle, its going to accellerate until it can't turn the transmission any harder with that much air. Its the entire principle on how cars work. you don't have to go WOT to accellerate. that guys a jackass. lower your muffler, until theres a distinctive second bump whe you run him over...the second bump will be the muffler bouncing off his forehead.

Heh heh... On the list of stuff to do, it was all reasonable apart from the point regarding the throttle. The car was modified and tuned by Stillway in Himeji. We had the car inspected after getting of the boat in Fremantle near Perth, and any mods to get it passed will be done in Bunbury, another city with another inspector. Its a single turbo modded car with a downpipe and muffler. i just had this really bad notion that I couldn`t get the car passed in Western Australia and would have to take it interstate.
Still, I will get the car fixed up then present it for inspection. Fingers crossed.

DaiOni, it would be good to catch up with a fellow fd owner. I am in kobe at the moment till the 5th Dec.

Goooo stillway! those guys are nutters?! Have they still got that graveyard full of cars at the top? such a sad sight :'(

I went there a year or 2 back when i was going through japan on a bit of a hoilday and my mate introduced me to them

Ahhh good times, the boss took us out in a customers evo8 as did the HKS boss... ooh those were some good times... oh well

Just a question wantok

How was your car imported. If it was a personal import than the car does not have to go through complaincing, i'm in Victoria and have spoken to DOTARS which are in charge of importing. If it is a personal import, just take it to VIC ROADS and they will tell you what you have to do in order to get it on the road. If it's not a personal import, let me know how the compliancing goes and how it works, thank you.

no, that's incorrect. It DOES need to be complianced - but is complianced under PI, instead of RAWS. They are federal regs - so it applies to all states. Generally, with FDs, the only requirements are things like a child restraint anchor (for 4-seaters) and a fuel filler adaptor. I've known people to get pinged for tyres as well. In the past changing the side mirror glass and fitting side intrusion bars (for the early models) were also required - but I believe this has been phased out.

when they are all done, you fit a yellow COMPLIANCE plate to the car - and you are ready to go.

Thanks for the advice. i will keep you posted on develpoments. In future, I`d be more inclined to invest in a stock standard fd, that has only superficial mods; like a body kit for example. Servicing a modified car (single turbo) could be difficult in Perth, although there has to be somebody with the experience. Btw, Daioni, do you think the single turbo conversion detracts from the market price?
