HKS Sequential transmission

HKS Sequential transmission
Lately Ive been looking into getting a more serious race transmission (g-force t5 most likely) for my car. I know HKS used to make a sequential trans for the FD, and I was wondering if anyone knew if they were still available anywhere, even if it was in the used JDM market. I thought I remembered the cost being somewhere ~$8k new.. but after the past few hours of searching the only place I found that even listed it was RHDJapan and they list it at like $22k or something ridiculous. I realize Im probably going down a dead end road even looking for one, but I thought Id ask. Would anyone happen to have any info or sources?

Thanks VJ!
They were roughly 8k new, might be 10k I always get mixed up with the hks 6speed and trust 6speed, one was 8k and the other was 10k. Anyways, they usually go for about 5k used over in Japan but the problem is getting them stateside due to the weight. At the moment we do not have a container so I have no way of getting them to the states. Even if you did get a container you would be looking at about $6,000 to get it here. IMO, you are better off getting a th400 (same as bewtew I believe) or a v160 transmission which is the 6speed transmission from the jza80/mkiv supra. Both would be cheaper then the hks/trust unit, would require minor modification (bell housing adapter plate etc) but in the long run would be more suitable due to the availability of parts. I am not even sure greddy/hks makes replacement parts for their transmission and if they did they would be outrageously priced.

^Please keep me in mind if you see one pop up for sale over in Japanland. Im interested in it for roadracing, and the V160 or T-56 ( The TH400 is as auto I think you meant T-56) I agree would be a good option, but it still isnt a sequential dogbox and would cost me just as much all said and done. I admittedly can do a g-force 5-speed swap for probably close to half or 2/3 the cost of the HKS unit.. but again they arent sequential and the HKS unit is just one of those things Ive always kind of wanted. Im sure you can relate

After some digging around, the hks 6 speed is still being made for 820,000Y which is about $9,000.
price list: http://www.hks-power.co.jp/products/...ist_index.html
info if you can read japanese, if not then use babel fish: http://www.hks-power.co.jp/products/...ion/index.html
It appears the greddy transmission has been discontinued and I can't find anything on their Trust Japan website.

Except according to the price list the sequential version is 1,500,000 or almost $18,000. Not including shipping. I would certainly do a T-56 with custom bellhousing over a hard-to-get-serviced sequential HKS unit for that price.

Yea I wouldnt even consider if for that price. I realize high end race trannys cost that kind of money, but its not worth it for what Ill be using it for. I would consider a good used unit in the ~$5k range, but short of that, its either T56 or as I mentioned a g-force 5-speed.

Gordon,
I have no fear in actually breaking the factory FD trans. As you said, they are pretty strong units and with my N/A 20B ill be lucky to make 250ft/lbs of torque. I was just interested in a faster shifting more race oriented trans, as I do worry about the stock boxs ability to be shifted at 9+k rpms for extended periods of time. You are correct though in that at this time I should probably be focusing money elsewhere.. but as you know in these projects your mind starts to wander a bit For example I also have a 8.8 Cobra IRS, which for my application is complete overkill.. but I like to idea of having a stronger rear and more rear gear options. I dont know how "serious" I plan to get into racing it, but I just like to sort of overbuild from the getgo so that I dont have any worries down the road. Perhaps thats why my projects take longer to complete than most, I like to do everything all at once rather than little at a time.

Speaking of trans swaps would a T-56 be able to handle those high RPM shifts? I haven't seen one in a vehicle that revs higher than 7k rpm (z06 vette). Also I remember seeing a thread with a 4 speed swap.(https://www.rx7club.com/showpost.php...6&postcount=11) While this probably isn't the best for road racing it may be ideal for drag racing.

my friends pro drift cars ran those hks sequential transmissions. they are very strong but they are racing transmissions and need to be overhauled frequently otherwise you will have problems.

A little google goes a long way. But at 21k, your better off getting a used one from another car and making an adaptor plate.

The Greddy/TRUST 6 speed was made by Quaife. The HKS one was not. If you need it shipped, I have a contact person. The only other one I like is the PPG, I have a contact person for that one too.
