hitching at 3500

hitching at 3500
can anyone help with this problem. last night on the freeway if I accelerated in 4th gear from say 2500, as soon as i hit around 3500 the car starts bucking, and the check engine light flashes on. I tried the same in 3rd without problems, but always did in 4th.
